HEY TALL PEOPLE ITS TIME FOR BASANT!


....OK PEOPLE ITS TIME TO WEAR YELLOW. I BEING A LAHORI, NEED TO CELEBRATE BASANT, WITH MY FRIENDS. ITS SPRING IN LAHORE AND KITES ARE UP AND FLYING THE SKIES. ITS ABSOLUTELY A MAGICAL TRANCE FOR LAHORIS. EVERYONE BECOMES A KITE ZOMBIE. THE BASANT EVE IS MAGICAL, AS THE KITES ARE FLOWN ALL NIGHT IN FLOOD LIGHTS. ITS THE MOST FASCINATING SIGHT FROM ROOFTOPS. EVERYONE MOVES TO THE OLD CITY OF LAHORE THAT NIGHT. THE DANCING IS AMAZING. COLOURS BRILLIANT.SO PLEASE WEAR YELLOW ON MARCH 12TH....HAPPY BASANT TO ALL.

hey guys whats the rowwla about.... what have I done now? actually sam, there is this other sam, we are discussing....I think she resembles you......lol...... a hidden machete.... oops sari and the machete duet. Ammoori my brave arab! come show your metal...... send flowers to our sam now....machete or no machete..

Oh lord have MERCY!! LOL! Well I JUST read this, and you watch your back Shahzelle cuz I"M coming after you, and any form of protection from Ammori won't help :P LOL! Or better yet, I challenge you to a dual. A kite flying dual ;)

BTW Ammorri...... I agree with you when you say that the less u know about someone before u propose the better possiblity that u would be seperated!! I mean for all you know, I carry a machete underneath my sari :( hehe......

wow.. after a moment of blushing..I like this old school way of proposing to someone I never met and I don't know just for the fact she is tall and i like her in Sari.
I would be propbably number 2499 of her proposal list!!

Actually if we worked the percentage and possibilities of failures versus success of proposals. Its safer to say that the less u know about someone before u propose the better possiblity that u would be seperated!!

obviously my question was not answer.
I need (The Idiot Guide of why east and ssouth asians like Kites).
I like watching TV, that may make sence for most people, Kites on the other hand must be culturly related!!? right, some tall girl shed the light.
I would marry a Pakistani Lady if she can withstand me watching basketball every day of the week.
Proposals can be sent to my box.

Thanks for that link....I think they had to do it. why must we desis take every thing to extremes?!...a simple dhoor does the trick also why did they need knives to fly a kite with.

Well Basant night is FUN!! When i was back in Pakistan, during basant season, Whichever boutique u'll go to, will only see yellow clothes. This color takes over the town..

I miss the whole Lahore scene.

Basant surely is fun. The whole environment, but at the same time it causes a lot of grief to some families.

basant is a very colorful yet violent way to welcome the spring! it's all about colorful kites and beheading them...don't quite understand how that's a warm welcome, but it's fun nonetheless.

No Shahzelle, I haven't :( . I've only ever been to Pakistan once, for 6 weeks and that was in Sept.-Oct. I really do want to be there for basant and I want to attend a wedding there sometime.....I heard they are the bomb!

Yes SAM! the same metal strings are being used. Which is illegal and forbidden, but kite flying is a mega event in Lahore, so its has become a law an order situation. In the event of a cut up straying string, it has cut necks of innocent bystanders. So until these string makers are challenged, it will be a problem. But I am sure there will still be a lot of partying and all the rest, in Lahore....ever been to a basant there?!

Amoori: Its not just Pakistani's who are into kites. Kites are also HUGE in east asian contries, especially CHINA. I went to a kite Chinesse kite festival once here in Ottawa...and it was SOOO awesome. The sky was FILLED with beautifully coloured kites of all shapes and sizes. The most beautiful one was a dragon kite and 9 people were needed to control it in the air, they made it flip, twirl and swim in the air it was just amazing... Also they have kite wars where some people have pieces of glass attached to the strings so that they can cut down other peoples kites in the air.

Shahzelle: I heard that basant festival had been cancelled because it has gotten very dangerous, and even fatal in the past several years.....

My favorite thing about basant is the colours...... they are like the mehndi colours of yellow oranges , green pinks and reds........ all my favorite colours :) :)

ammoori ....ammoori..... its all in the kite....hop and catch it.......on a serious note kite flying is a great art in Pakistani...its not like in the other countries its amazing.....marry a Pakistani gal....and we will treat you to a basant......what say you?! :D
