Just finished it last night, anyone else finished the Virgin's Knot?

The reader seems to be fighting to keep a grasp of what the storyline is meant to be. There is so much going on,
the author has tried to put in a lot. She has tried to draw parallels for what Hennesey is seeking, what it means for him, but you are still a little lost. There isn't enough background to what he is seeking.
There is meant to be a mystic side to the story which also isn't drawn out enough.

Sorry, I ordered the book long ago, but I've been busy with The Historian. I'm enjoying that a lot. I'll finish up this book over the weekend, just so I can get back to the Historian quickly :)

ok, so I can't finish it. I've tried really hard, but can't get myself to finish the last 30 pages beyond nurdane and hennessey making out in the cave...guys, please let me know if there's any thing I'm missing by just skimming the rest!

oh yeah, what happens to mehmet and ayse???

I thought the sans quote format and the 3rd person omnicient narration deterred the reader from really getting into the book and empathizing with the main characters. At times she has beautifully constructed sentences and at others the writing is so friggin stilted.

and what's up with the whole goddess thing anyways??

Eventhough I finished the book w/in 2-3 days, the book had highs/lows for me. Sometimes just couldnt put it down, other times I needed a break from the book. Overall - I probably would not recommend it as one of my fav books. It has nothing to do w/ religion (like others are saying), but more like...I didnt personally relate to the story, combined with the fact the book didnt do much thought provoking. So, for me, it was just more of a simple read to kill time, thats all. I will say, the next time I look at a hand made rug...I will appreciate it more, and wonder if their is a 'story' behind it..

It would be worth finishing though because as a first novel, it's not bad. The use of words and attempt to for the reader to visualise the text shows the author does have potential.
Only as a personal opinion, she'll need to research a little deeper her next book. Her understanding of Islam has been almost zero, as though she has lived in the presence of Muslims (or non-practising Muslims whatever that may be percieved as) but not among them to gain an insight into the beautiful religion.

Any other opinion guys?

I am just past half way through the book, and it has thus so far proved to be a little uninspiring. Yes hands up I did propose we read this, but I am woman enough to say I wouldn't recommend it, though there is nothing to say it's a bad read, only that it does not grasp you. There are better reads out there.

well I admit I've been reading this book pretty slowly, but even I've only got 60 pages left. I think we should bid it a final goodbye by friday this week. So please start sharing your parting thoughts.
