hijab and running

I used to run in high school. I was particularly a sprinter but I also ran distance. A few times I've tried to get back into it but a few things hold me back. One, man is it hard to start from scratch again - my knees hurt, I get shin splints right away, etc. Secondly, I wear hijab and I struggle to find a time and place to run where I really feel comfortable with it. I was wondering if anyone had similar experiences, suggestions, etc.

We have a gym like that here called Curves for Women. I was a member for two years until I just got positively bored with it because it is just the same circuit training over and over and over. But alas, no hijabis - I live in a place where I'm the only one. But that doesn't really matter. I guess I just need to find the time, right clothes, right place, and of course enough motivation!

I've ran quite a few races since last year and in the beginning it was uncomfortable. But I think once you get off dat uncomfortable box den you're arright. Mah family thinks I?m crazy but I look at it as an accomplishment. Word.

I think its way cool to see a hijabi run...Im not a hijabi but I would certainly support and encourage hijabis to run, its a great form of dawah and also a message to the world that just because you wear hijab doesnt mean you are restricted from staying in shape and taking care of yourself.KUDOS! Mashallah! And if you are still uncomfortable...I have a membership at Womens Workout World, hence all women. I would say 30% of the women who frequent the gym are hijabi Mashallah, you may wanna check that out! FYI-its not a glamorous gym,its for women ONLY, you go in do your workout and get out...I like it alot!Again it was nice to see soo many hijabis working out!

Regarding your knee bit, I too have the same issue. Ive learned that its not such a good idea to run outside on concrete, as that can take a painstaking toll on your joints esp knees. Try running on a treadmill...you can actually gauge how fast, how much, and control the intensity of your run.
