His workouts
Hey,
I heard somewhere that BL valued situps more than anything in his workouts. He even shelled out big bucks for the portable electric sit-up simulator that would hook electrodes to your abs and simulate sit-ups. (Not that expensive now, but back in ~1974 it was mucho dinero). Rumor has it that he had it hooked up almost half of every day.
I think he valued a powerful core more than anything, 'cause Jeet Kune Do philosophy is that all power flows from the abs or "gut." Since I follow JKD, I've taken up this stance as well, and it works for me. Has anybody else heard anything along these lines?

I think Bruce used 'classical Karate' as a collective term for any martial art that teaches strict sets and forms which has become solidified over the years. I used it as a reference from the essay he wrote for BlackBelt magazine.
Traditional Okinawan karate can be lethal.
Fitness man: That's pretty interesting. I was wondering if you can send me that email too. I'd like to read more on that as well.
Giving an example: when I get client to do sit ups if they r on the floor they use their ab's, the flat floor aids them. When doing gym ball the constant wobbling recruits more deeper fibres and different ab muscle (transverse) which are thenatural stabilisers and the ones that give u a lat stomach, they run horizontally as opposed to the vertical abs muscles we all use, and they are attached to the back muscles, targeting these is essential for serious core muscle
1)
i use gym ball for execises what is it that makes it different? anyone? And who knows about proper usage of it? How high etc..what type? Is there any exercise i can have
2)
Lets be honest here, what is the best street fighting art?
Regards to core training, as a personal trainer one large component is now Core stability, each program devised consists of extensive exercises for the core as the power for all actions comes from there so all sportpeople include some aspect of this in training. Alot is on gym balls(swiss ball) and you do now get everyone using a gym ball for evey exercise to incorporate the core muscles. Bit long sorry!
But having a good cardiovascular workout was also important to Bruce. As there's no point exercising the core for power if you don't have the endurance to last in a fight. Bruce found that out in the Wong Jak Man fight, which was one of his poorest fights.
Learning any martial art is beneficial, as long as we can apply it. Sadly its only in a real fight that we know what works and what doesn't. Bruce's WC was tested out in numerous street fights so he knew what was relevant to real world scenarios. He had alot of problems with the WC style and believed it to be too rigid, but he used what he learnt to escape the rigidity to a new methodology...JKD.
We shouldn't possess any chauvinism when it comes to martial art, especially about the style that we practice. All styles ultimately have shortcomings and there isn't a perfect martial art nor a perfect way of fighting. Everything can be countered. You must 'liberate yourself from classical karate'.
" have a great teacher in the legacy that BL left ",
i was in the impression there was someone else who ur teacher was.
BL was a great philosopher...no doubt!!
Also, asians believe the soul resides in the belly, and not in the heart.
Just dont quote me on this. I could be wrong with the actual number. But I think thats what was said in the movie Dragon, and I may have read that somewhere as well.
