Honey

?Your Lord inspired the bee saying: ?.?eat of all the produce of the earth, and find with skill the spacious paths of your Lord: there issues from within their bodies a drink of varying colours, wherein is healing for men: surely in this there is a Sign for those who would give thought.? (Surah An-Nahl, 69 - The Meaning of the Qur?an)

HOney is one of those things that we Muslims have always known is good for our health but only in recent years have scientists paid honey any attention.

It has been found to have extremely strong antibiotic, antioxidant and antiviral capabilities. If you have a wound and place honey on it, it will heal much faster. Becuase it is a natural immune booster, having a spoon of honey a day is a great prevention method for colds.

The saying, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away" should be changed to, "A spoon full of honey a day, keep the doctor away".

Also, since honey is a natural sweetner, it is a GREAT replacement for refined white sugar because it has the great same taste, with at least 40 % fewer calories.

The trick with honey is to eat one that is from the area in which you live if you want it to provide you immunity to illness (colds/flus) rampant in the area in which you live. Different cities/countries have different forms of viruses/bacteria; they also have different plants from which bees gather nectar to make honey. The honey made by bees provides protection from illness from areas that are same as the flowers which were used to make the honey.

So next time you are eating honey, make sure that if you are from the US, thats where your honey comes from, and preferably from the same state, as opposed to being from Europe or South America :P

Fairytale: If you really want raw honey, you can only get it from a bee hive. If you live in farm house, you can build your own honey combs and raise honey. Various techniques have been illustrated to accomplish the above mentioned task.
