Honoring Our Parents
Has anyone ever sat and thought about the sacrifices their parents have made for them? Many of us are Arab Muslim Americans and most of us have parents who came from other countries to make a "better" life for their families. They left what is familiar to pursue a dream. Mother's day just passed and I was thinking about all the sacrifices both of my parents have made for me. AlhamdillaAllah I am very lucky for both of them. My father came from Syria to the United States with $150 and a dream of education and prosperity and Freedom. He worked hard, married my mother who is American and they worked hard together. They created a loving, safe atmosphere for their children. I will always remember the Sunday mornings when we didn't have crazy swim meets and we would crawl into bed with my parents and just talk about our week and what we all wanted to accomplish in the coming week. These are things I cherish. And sitting on the floor with my head on my dad's leg as he told us children stories of the Prophet Mohammad and his Sahaba. AlhamdillAllah for my parents. I love them very much.
