How to hit on the cute girl/guy on the treadmill next to you?

Ah, that got your attns! Actually, my real question is: what's better to burn fat, doing cardio at 65% intensity or nearly 80%?

I know on the treadmills and the bikes at the gym, it says for fat burn, go at 65, cardio, do 80%. Whats the deal with that? Thanks.

1) 65% you burn mostly fat and less muscle, if your blood sugar levels are low ofcourse.

2) 80% you burn many more fat calories in the same amount of time you would doing 65%. You also burn more muscle. But the thing is you continue to burn calories after your done working out as opposed the amount you would after you were at 65%

about the carbs... yes eating carbs does matter.. big time...
the basic idea is attaining a negative energy balance. . so you consume lower calories than you burn...

coming to the carbs.. the more simple carbs you eat.. (also known as high glycegemic carbs) like white rice, white bread, sugar, etc... it raises ur insulin level.. higher the insulin level.. you're body becomes better at storing fat.. (in other words u become fatter.. )

bottom line.. eat plenty of protien.. moderate fat(low on saturated fat) and eat complex carbs.. like whole wheat bread, veggies, fruits, and all other fiber containing food..
and don't eat really big meals.. eat 5 small meals moderatly spaced out during the day...

hope that helps ..

I agree with the others on this post... low intensity is outdated.. you achive higher efficiency going closer to your max...
even better try: H.I.I.T (High Intensity Interval Training) Meaning you alternate between high and low intensity for bout 20 mins .. for instance .. you warm up for 5 mins first .. followed by one min of high intensity (thats 8-10mph for me.. but it should be something that almsot gets you out of breath.. 80 or more heart rate) followed by one min of low intensity.. slow jog .. and alternate between these two for bout 20 mins...
this has proven to be a great fat burner.. i could point you to articles proving it's efficeincy on this...

wasimm hit it on the head.

its about efficiency in fat burning. you do burn a higher percentage of fat at a lower rate. yet absolute numbers wise you are better off at the higher end. on the other hand..you might get sick of the exercise at such a high pace and quit earlier.

as far as vo2 max and performance characteristics however...you MUST work out at the higher levels.

Theres all this much around about Target Heart Rate and Fat Burning Zones.. But the truth is, the higher the intensity, the more overall calories you burn. It is true that you burn higher percentage of calories from fat when involved in lower intensity cardio, but at higher intensity you burn greater number of OVERALL calories - which is what you should be aiming at for weight loss

calories are basic unit of energy your body needs to do work thas it...calories are in everything you eat and there is no escaping them. as far as carbs and sugars are concerned yes as long as you keep the intake down it should defintely help your cause to get ripped.

stuff u see on treadmills and bikes about doing 65 to 70% heart rate is out dated and not precisely accurate info just like the old food pyramid which tells you to eat tons of carbs and starches and very little of protein. Recent studies have shown that in order get optimum results in terms of burning calories, toning up your body or simply to build up your wind going closer to your maximum potential brings about quicker and more noticeable results. believe me it works cuz HSR we tried the old method of boring 4 mile runs, now in HSRe we do hustle hill sprints and it makes a world of a difference.
