How to motivate lazy indifferent people?

I called so many people this weekend... and they were like

'oh thats so nice you're helping out!?'

Duh! I called you to see if you would like to come along!!! Given you just spent the day sitting on your butt doing nothing at all... not cool! Not cool at all!

you make it as easy for people to do whatever it is you want them to do as possible. for e.g. sent them template letters where all they have to do is change the address and sign - send them the relevant links cos they can't be bothered looking.

you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink. you'll get much more out of someone already motivated than trying to motivate the lazy bum - it's a waste of your energy too then.

lastly, go onto saquake.org - there's a whole heap of resources that you can find on there

Well, you know we all lead very busy lives so sometimes it not the matter of being lazy. There so many things I want to do but never get around to because of this exam or that paper or a work commitment. So much for having a well rounded life. LOL Despite that...My family and I have sent clothing and money. Sometimes even the smallest things make a difference. But when it comes to lazy...Yeah...My sister fits the bill. She lives in Islamabad and has not done anything. So there are both sides to it. Waqas you really are a go getter. Kudos.

i am not suprised that u got that response from people who live in USA - away from the EQ'05 areas.

even in Pakistan these people exist - now that the month of ramzan is over their charity sprite is also over.

the daily media coverage has not had any affect on these people. they appease their (nonexistant) conscience by saying oh we sent money.

PUT A BOMB ON THEY LOVED ONES........... LOOK DESI PEOPLE DON'T REALLY GIVE A SHIIT IF ANYONE DIES OR NOT,,,,, AS LONG AS THEIR HOUSES ARE RUNNING OK AND THEY HAVE THE FINEST SPORT CARS AND HIGH TECH EQUIP!!!!

IN ALL HONESTY,,,, I THINK LEAVE IT,,,,, LET ALLAH PUNISH THEM............. I DON'T BEG PEOPLE TO HELP I ASK ALLAH TO HELP,,,, WHEN ALLAH PUNISHED THESE PEOPLE THEN THEY MIGHT LEARN!!!!

BUT IF YOU STILL ARE SO EAGER,,, THEN INSTEAD OF WASTING TIME WITH THE LAZY PAKI PEOPLE,,, ASK THE GHORAH (WHITE) AND SIKH PEOPLE TO HELP AS THEY ARE MORE CHARITABLE AND TRUSTWORTHY!!!!

Misslondon- I understand your anger and its ok to vent but that's really not the reason I started this village or this particular journal.. It IS really frustrating! But pointing fingers and complaining is easy..as desis especially we are all masters at that!

The thing is what more can we all do and how can we get others to help out as well? Any suggestions?

IS THIS ABOUT THE EARTHQUAKE IN PAKISTAN, WHERE PEOPLE ARE NOT HELPING YOU???

OK,, LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING,,,,,,

PLACES HIT IN THE EARTHQUAKE ARE THE NORTHERN AREAS OF PAKISTAN, WHERE ANOTHER EARTHQUAKE WILL HIT SOON,
NOW A EMBASSADOR RESIGNED HIS POST A FEW MONTHS AGO BECAUSE HE COMPLAINED ABOUT MUSLIMS IN THE COUNTRY WHERE HE WAS EMBASSADOR WERE BEING ABUSED AND KILLED, NO-ONE HEARD THIS MANS CRIES, THE UK PRIME MINISTER EVEN TOLD HIM TO KEEP IT QUIET AS IT WOULD CAUSE A LOT OF PROBLEMS IF THIS MAN SPOKE,........
LATER ON THAT DAY, A MAN WAS INTERVIEWED BY TV ABOUT THE TORTURE TO OTHER MUSLIMS, THIS MAN WAS IN UK, BUT HIS FAMILY WERE FROM NORTHERN PAKISTAN,,, WHEN QUESTIONED ABOUT HELPING MUSLIMS, HE TOLD THE REPORTER,,,,,, WHY SHOULD I HELP PEOPLE WHEN IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ME,,, I LIVE IN UK AND I AM SAFE,,, SO ITS NOT MY PROBLEM,,,,,

ALLAH MUST OF GOT SO UPSET WITH THIS MAN'S COMMENTS THAT IN THE EARTHQUAKE ALL HIS FAMILY DIED IN PAKISTAN,,, NOW THAT MAN IS RAISING MONEY HIMSELF FOR PAKISTAN AND PEOPLE ARE HELPING HIM BUT TAUNTING HIM NEVER TO SAY,,,,,,,, IT NOT A JOB OF A MUSLIM TO HELP A MUSLIM!!!!

THESE PEOPLE WHO CAN'T BE BOTHERED WILL BE PUNISHED BY ALLAH AND AT THAT TIME THEY WILL LEARN A LESSON THEY WILL NEVER FORGET,,,INSHALLAH!!!

Peacetwou- you know someone had suggested I put up pictures up with the links & info page I put on my site. I dunno I felt like doing so would be disrespectful and kinda exploiting them.. but I'm thinking you're right some people do actually need to see people suffering with their own eyes before they realise this is for real! :(

I know how you feel. Next time appeal to their emotions first. Show pictures or live footage. People are more visual, they have to see horror and devastion before their emotions kick in and push them to act.

Peace

yeah.. I know. it's pretty shameful.

honestly I dont know what I can do to help other than sending money and clothes and making du'a (and encouraging my friends to do the same)? the thing is we're in the middle of our own disaster right now (in new orleans), and everyone around me is consumed by it. granted, I wouldnt dare compare our hardships with theirs, but we have lost our homes and jobs and are struggling to get our city back to normal. the local masjid did fundraise, but they didnt raise much.

it's all overwhelming.. and I hate being ineffective. so while I may not be able to give much input here, I'm looking fwd to benefitting from everyone else's.
