How to stop late night cravings

I have always been a healthy eater and watched what I eat. It has always been important for me to maintain my weight. But recently I have noticed that I am constantly craving food really late at night, right around the time that I should be going to bed. Does anyone else have this problem? And if so, what do you do to control yourself from eating late at night?

Once I start eating cereal, I have trouble restricting my intake to just one bowl. Two at least, is what does it for me. So I stay away from cereal. Recently, I have been reaching for fruit if I get cravings at night. Nectarines are good and filling.

Is eating a regular sized, but healthy meal 2 hours before falling asleep ok, or is that too late? What I mean is, would it make me gain weight to eat a normal, healthy meal 2 hours before bed?

I wish I could have tea at night, but the caffeine would keep me awake way past dawn. I cannot have cereal late at night cause once I start, I won't be able to stop. What are soy-fortified biscuits? They don't sound too good.

I've tried the milk thing. Sometimes it does help, sometimes it doesn't. Eating around bedtime always relaxes me if I feel anxious. i don't have any junk food in the house. Whenever i get a late night craving i never eat anything that is actually unhealthy. i just eat large portions, which means i am consuming a lot of calories right before bedtime, which will then be stored as fat. I am obsessed with what i eat and how many calories i consume. i am a calorie counter. my obsession with staying slim and what i eat and when i eat is starting to interfere with my ability to enjoy daily life. (That sounded like a commercial for some new prescription drug). I get major carb cravings for bread at night.

How to stop late night cravings? Go to bed early !

Failing that, a bowl of Special-K cereal (+ skim milk) or a salad bowl (from your local grocery) topped off with fat-free ranch dressing and/or 1% fat grated cheese are excellent remedies to late night cravings.

My chinese friends also recommend soy or soy-fortified biscuits with milk and or tea.

yup shirin, been going to the gym, incorporated lots of walking whether power or leisure and I will be starting kickboxing in Hoboken this month. So excited about it. Inshallah.

Food is not the problem for me, it's getting the exercise done. Finally controlling my sweet tooth.

Hagen Daazzz :P they opened a Cold Stone Mountain ice cream shop in Time Square..should try that out. Nothing beats Mr. Softie though while walking around NYC. Yummy!

Imrana: Good advice. But yeah, definitely eat a good healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner. And snack in b/w each meal. But that doesnt mean eat a huge unhealthy breakfast, lunch or dinner. I have seen people eat really really bad. Actually I can get that way too ;) If you want to eat out, eat grilled stuff and avoid processed sugar and flour. Imrana: do you work out?

I Lub Milk! Chocolate, strawberry, and rouafza flavored :)

To stop cravings I would suggest you maybe try eating breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen, and dinner like a pauper. Ofcourse between each meal have a healthy snack. Supposed to eat like every three hours, and if you are gonna eat after 6 or 7 aim for a healthy snack. All about changing the habits not avoiding a craving.

To prevent a craving maybe you should think...if I eat this...it's gonna add X number of calories and help me gain weight. or if you eat it then you got to stay up another 2-3 hours to help you digest it.

I've been able to stop cravings by eating like the royals and drinking more than 64 oz of water a day.

On my way to dropping the lbs. it's AWESOME!
