i know how it feels to find that ur idea is already out there.. but the bright side of the 25/26 ratio is that you are on the right track so just keep going.... I came to the beleive that whenever something (project, research paper, invention) is "ready" to come to the world, then there are many ppl working on it simultaneoulsy, so "time" is a factor here... good luck inshaaAllah...

seriously i don't trust this whole education. i am dieing for an invention to make and presented into the market. i have came up with 26 invention ideas. however when i made a search 25 from the 26 are already made. so i have an idea in mind right now that i want to develop hope it works.

speaking of parents influence, I have a friend of mine who was a physics-genuis in high school, yet because of his high score in high school, his family was after him until he went inot a medical career instead of an Engineering or or a science one... it was a shame really...he end up being a very normal doctor..I think had he went for an engineering or a physics career, we would have another Ahmed Zewil

umm by working so hard to achieve high score in highschool it will be hard to put down engineer or doctor. and because those careers are hard to achieve the egyptian parents convince their kids to enter engineer or medical school in the USA as it is a dream that came true.

yah amr that could be one of the reason i changed my major (not to be rich) but not just go with the crowd without asking myself why...

I agree with you that most ppl in Egypt looks at engineers, doctors, pharmacist and dentist better than the way they look at other professions. for me, I think that one who does what he loves and becomes distinguished in it is much better than someone who just follow the crowd.

The ironic thing in Egypt is that your high school score puts a pressure on you!! the higher it is, the more difficult it is for you to turn down a medical or engineering career even if you are not that interested in any of them!! same thing when it goes for sub-majors (Computer engineer, electrical, mechanical, etc.)

I think that is a "factor" in the problem u raised here. Quoting one of my professors "the problem in Egypt is that everyone thinks about himself rather than thinking about his counry's needs" we need as much talented accountants, lawyers, hard-core scientists as well as engineers and doctors. Yet culture discrmination stands in the middle.

the question is, can we change this cultural discriminatoin and how?

every college student in egypt hoping to have a job in a office with a nice black suite. and most of them can't even find a job and became broke.

i imagine if was living in Egypt. if i was in Egypt i will not behave like most of the people do, i will find my way in my own. since money became very important in Egypt i will find the money first and then college later.
from my small exprience about life i came to a fact when everybody running in the same direction u will need to take a different one.
