I Wish My Mum Had Told Me...

following from Mamad's useless things at school JE,

what did your parents teach you that you didn't really need to know about..

or conversely

- what do you wish they had taught you

- is there any useful info you managed to get out of them

I wish my mom told me that

1) 66 tator tots on a hot tuesday afternoon after football practice is a no no.

2) Don't eat an entire family size frozen lasagna dinner.

3) 58 "fire" sauce packets on a single taco bell tortilla isn't so pretty the next morning.

4) There was brain mixed in with that kheema that one day it tasted funny.

5) Hitting the brakes in your car while drinking from a Nalgene bottle only leads to a mess.

:P

mo, my talk actually spared my mum.. cos it went

'do you know about this stuff' (holds out 17 magazine article on teenage sex / periods/ pregnancy accusingly)

me: yes, from school and stuff..

mum: (relieved) well that's ok then.. just be careful (translation: stay away from boys), and if you want to ask me anything.. etc.

the rest of it consisted of reading mags www.seventeen.com , the Sex for teenagers section in the encyclopedia, biology class and ignoring gossip you hear at school

Buttons, Trousers alterations, making a full sleeve shirt into a half sleeve, stuff like that.
If you want to marry a 60 year old, then go right ahead, all the best wishes for both of you.

No regrets here, My mom taught me everything. from cooking to shopping, from sewing to cleaning, from parties to keeping relatives happy. But the thing she advised me a day before she passed away was to always practice my 5 NAMAZ and Alhamdulilah, so far I am up to the promise and inshAllah, I will keep it.

My mums left it for me to figure out myself.

If I get it wrong on my wedding night I suppose I could always quickly text her, right?

You're probably right labs.

I just do not want to imagine my mother talking about that stuff. Nor my father.

how were you educated on this matter?(if you dont mind me asking)

i think the stuff you hear at school is just rumour.. never factual and causes more harm than good, it's a parent's job to give the birds and bees lecture, otherwise by the time your biology teacher does you've alreaady heard the useless version

Wait, aren't you guys glad your mums never gave you the 'birds and the bees' speech. It would be so awkward.

I personally learned via a completely innapropriate yet informative lecture given by an older student at school.

you sound like my kid; she can give a 10 minute speech on 'the operation' that produces babies.. usually in a loud voice, in the middle of the high street..

Babies essentialy do come out of mouths.

The woman screams and nags that she wants a baby, 9 months later it comes from the tummy. It is the tummy, right?
