I Wonder How Hydro's Do It....

So, I went to the halal food store the other day and found myself in a conundrum.... I was standing there playing eenie-meenie-mynie-moe cuz I couldn't figure out if I should purchase the Pickled Mango - Pakistani Flavor or the Pickled Mango - Hyderabadi Flavor.

Dude... I didn't even know Pickled Mango came in flavors.

Do Hydro's and Paki's cook THAT different??
I mean... we all eat roti, don't we?
and we all like chai w/ our parathas, right?
and aloo with our keema?
and salt in our lassee?

I made samosas today and the whole time I was wondering.... damn... I wonder how hydro's do it.....

lol @ Ras. Funny story, Deloitte just opened an office in Hyderbad, India, sort of an inhouse outsourcing group. So one of our partners made a pronounciation key for the names of our peers over there to help bridge our cultural/communication gap. As a joke, I made a similar looking key but with hindi cuss words and passed it out to my friends. I think that would be a more effective bridge!

Probably cause Punjabis are drunk all the time.

And Ruby, I'm not dignifying that with a response :)

You wish. I was always a silent observer, just waiting for the right time to make fun of you :)
Oh wait, if I tease you does it mean I have a crush on you?

Ok, Ruby is the greatest, she's so nice and smart and articulate. Ok that should take away the teasing.

I wonder if there's as many ways to cook briyani as there are dialects in India (or Pakistan)?

Maybe it's cause you guys are short and jip us on cheap hotels! lol, j/k.

I have a test to see who's food tastes better- see how much they smell. The more masala in the smell, the more in their food.

Fiji Hindi has many similar words to gujrati, punjabi, urdu, and some other junk. Don't worry all, Fijians tend to get hated on all the time too. I personally don't like those certain Fijians who make it their life's work to give Fijians a bad name. It's ironic that i have more non desi friends and those certain desi ones are Indo/Paki.

hahahaa all the gujjus i knew hated the way gujrati sounded too...i used to teach hindi and urdu and over 80% of my students were gujrati speakers...finally wound up having to learn a little so i could help them relate to hindi words.

although...ppl hate on punjabi too...cos its so harsh..ppl all up in my face tellin me i'm paindoo (cos even my urdu is tinged with punjabi, i've even had fobs tell me this) and that i should wear a dhoti with a t-shirt and Bata chappal and grow big hair and a moustache with no beard...

but i tell em like it is: don't hate, if my language sounded like you'rs i'd be mad too...

yeah its amazing how difft the cultures can be, even though we all eat roti and drink chai with our parathas. i was at an iftar last nite and this topic came up. i learned some words i never heard before: "tashtari" for "plate" and "petabey" for "socks" i remember i was in florida once for a hydro wedding, and my fam were the only non hydros there...when they were all sittin around the room talkin, i swear, i could barely make it out as urdu, it's that different from the kind of urdu we speak in punjab. u get used to it...with the nakkos and haus...but it's really different.

but nothing takes the place of punjabi!!
