"I'm an alien - I'm an evil alien. I'm an Englishwoman in....er......San Diego."
Hello everybody.
I'm about to head to San Diego for two months in September and I'm actually rather nervous. It'll be my first time across the water, so to speak, and I am anticipating a culturally fascinating experience.
I thought it would be nice to meet up with some Naseeb people when I come over to the States, especially since I'm going to be alone in a new place.
The reason why I'm coming over is because I am doing a couple of clerkships at the UCSD School of Medicine, as part of my med school degree. Although it'll be tough, I am determined to have some fun in San Diego and get to know the culture etc.
I hope some of you might be interested in hanging out with a Brit in foreign waters. I've been told I'm not bad company, if that's any incentive...
Farrah
PS Somebody told me that it is common practice for people to eat pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, ALL TOGETHER, on one plate, in the States. I realise that this doesn't affect us since we eschew the filthy flesh of swine, but still, doesn't it strike you as intensely wrong for people to mix savoury meat with a product as glutinous and sugary as maple syrup? Please provide me with your thoughts on this perverse practice, if indeed it exists and is not part of some elaborate hoax by my flatmate.

I booked my flights - I am ridiculously excited.
unfortunately your concern is valid ... cali in general and SD in particular is not big on public transportation ... that's not to say there r no buses running or anythgn, cuz there surely r, it's just that comign from London u probably would feel the system is inadequate here ... that said, depending on where u end up staying (i have a feeling it'd be in La Jolla somewhere) u might be able to get around in the area painlessly (everything u'd need is close by) .... so i dont' think u should be worried about that, just yet...
lol @ the trolley bit ...
My main concern is getting around, as I've heard that public transport in SD is not great. Is this true? Living in London, I've never needed to even learn to drive as buses and Tubes are great. Could I not feasibly get around the city on buses or the....Trolley? Why is it called a trolley by the way, as here a trolley is what you put your groceries in as you browse the supermarket. :)
