2) i neednt say this, but 'all republicans are not exactly in complete consensus'. so while i do consider my self a republican , i think that many republicans are moderates by definition.

3) are you suggesting socialism for america too? how do you propose implementing this?

4) universal healthcare ... is this basic healthcare or all medical procedures etc? because here, in usa, there are numerous programs which ensure free healthcare. while its not on the books per se, this is essentially the access given through ngos, etc.

im not totally against what you are saying, merry, i am simply looking for some dialogue on this issue. and maybe a larger question: are muslims united on political issues in the west or are we as divided with politics as we are with religion?

I didn't say ignore... I said forget. Two totally different notions. I personally cannot stand the right at all. While I think it's important to be involved, I really can't get behind any political party that promotes extremism at any level. Unfortunately, with Bush's last move (nominiating Scalito for the Supreme Court) it looks like the Republicans are moving in a certain direction that I can never stand behind. Even in Canada, we have the conservatives...they're the war pushing, bomb building, tax cutting party but are still WAY less right wing than the Republicans of America. Canadian Socialism has been working in this country for years and the gap between rich and poor is so small - we have some of the world's best social programs and we have something called Universal Healthcare which means every Canadian is taken care of. The conservatives (right) want to take that away - ask me why I hate them again?

merrymary, i dont think its good to 'ignore' or 'forget'. while i believe no political allegience is without fault, i think its imp for us, muslims, to seek out the party who will best represent out needs as muslims, as americans. its a balancing act, i believe. if in weighing the pros and cons liberalism comes out with more marbles in the pan, so be it. but i think its imp to push for change where there is a deficit. dont forget! confront, propose, and change!

in regards to war and bombs, which are mostly 'foreign policy' issues (pertaining to intl law etc), both sides fare the same.
