Imperfect miracles?

Life is meant to be a miracle and God is supposed to create us perfectly. No doubt that the way our body functions and exists is a miracle and an amazing thing. The way our eyes see is a miracle. The way our brain works is a miracle.

On the other hand we have children who are born with deformities. We have people who get depression or go mad or something just short circuits in their brain to stop them from behaving normally. We have people who get serious clinical depression and through this depression do harm to themselves or to others. Some even take their own life as I have seen in my extended family. My father also told me at one point he had thoughts of taking his own life and came very close to it because of his depression.

We have people who lose their eyesight and end up needing glasses. We have people who go blind.

Some children are born deformed? Siamese twins, hermaphrodites with both male and female organs etc.

I see lists and lists of imperfect and flawed miracles before me. If not even a leaf can fall from a tree without the permission of God then how do we explain all this? If God is Most Gracious and Most Merciful then how can He allow these things to happen? Sometimes the thought has crossed my mind that it is a cruel joke or that He has stopped caring but this cant be right.

What are all your thoughts on this? Id love to hear what you guys have to say.

Oh Im not complaining about my existance. Im just fine and dandy. Its the poor sods that are born joined at the head or born with both male and female parts that put a big "?" in my head.

Even if life were a country club, people would still complain.

You have to accept my friend that an entity like God created you as a fact. There is a good reason behind your creation because God does not engage in banter nor wastes time in frivolity.

You were created! You should be thankful.

What more do you want?

to add to Shazia's thought...life doesn't have to be long lasting nor fit under our "general" defintion of what a a individuals life should look like....we tend to judge a fullfilled life on our terms.....given that though I still have a hard time reconcilling what adversities and trials people are dealt in their lives and how the whole lottery works...

There's an up for every down. Every action has a reaction. So in the case of diseases/deformities, while I am not a physician, I do know that eg., some children with autism are gifted in other ways, that Down's kids bring a real feeling of love and joy, that the gene for sickle cell also brings with it protection from malaria, that many of our greatest writers, poets, artists have had mental illness etc. CosmicLatte will be able to help more here.

I think life in itself and it its most primeval is a miracle - it doesnt mean that life has to be long-lasting. Or healthy. People who may have only been in our lives for a few short years - I wouldnt wish that I had ever not had them in my life. Regardless of how hard it can be when they are not there anymore
