Important informal meeting-- Doctor's for Humanity; not JUST for doctors!
Unity is Strength. Join us so that together we can make a difference in this world as Muslims. We cannot just complain how those that use violence in the name of Islam don't represent the vast majority of Muslims and then sit idly by without working towards change and without having long term goals. Let us work together to change our destinies and the destiny of humanity. This is not meant to sound corny or melodramatic -- a few of us are actually meeting to do just that. Please read below and join us!
The world is full of good people. But the world is in need of good people who are actively working for its betterment.
As Muslims, our obligations lie above and beyond our day to day routine activities. As Muslims we should always have the ?bigger picture? in our minds.
We should be at the forefront of change for the better in societies. We should be the most cognizant of the fact that societies are changing in today's day and age, with growing emphasis on material wealth at the expense of human compassion. It is us who should be the "doctors" for humanity, the "cure" for its many ills.
If you believe that one person can make a difference, please join us for a lively discussion during ISNA related to the above and much more. The event is independent of ISNA and organized by a group of professionals just like you who want to be the change they want to see in the world.
There will be a brief introduction to the concept behind the meeting and the organization, a very short informal presentation of some tangible ideas related to implementing this "change the world" philosophy by using healthcare as the initial vehicle, and then the floor will be opened up for discussion. The discussion will be the main part of the meeting.
The event is open to anyone who believes that one person can make a difference and to those who believe in starting a revolution in the way we think.
Event: Doctors For Humanity Informal Interest Meeting
When: Saturday, September 3, 2005 (during ISNA) at 6 pm
Where: Room Vienna, Hyatt Regency O?Hare (connected to the convention center where ISNA is being held)
Doctors for Humanity is a new organization based out of New York. It was started by a group of young professionals who wanted to create a sort of a ?think tank? whereby likeminded individuals could come together for discussions related to how we can work together to better the world around us on a global scale.
Though it might seem that the task at hand ? ?curing? humanity of its ?ills? ? is vast, the organization plans to start by doing small things and has some tangible and practical ideas on how to start making a difference. Though filled with idealism, the members are well grounded and look forward to your input.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world: indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." -- Margaret Meade
