Important Lesson

A group of working adults got together to visit their University lecturer. The lecturer was happy to see them. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
The Lecturer just smiled and went to the kitchen to get an assortment of cups - some porcelain, some in plastic, some in glass, some plain looking and some looked rather expensive and exquisite.
The Lecturer offered his former students the cups to get drinks for themselves.
When all the students had a cup in hand with water, the Lecturer spoke: "If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal that you only want the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all you wanted was water, not the cup, but we unconsciously went for the better cups."
"Just like in life, if Life is Water, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold/maintain Life, but the quality of Life doesn't change."
"If we only concentrate on the cup, we won't have time to enjoy/taste the water in it."

well masud there is a difference, of course the ocntented people are not the ones who make the difference in thias world you have to be un contented if you want to be the best other wise you will stay average :) there is a trade of between being happy and being the best

But what if what a person wants is to develop an ability in themselves hoping that will make them happy.

Should they stop worrying about it and just be happy with what abilities they have?

hmm makes me think between my needs and my wants. both are tough to seperate. its not easy esp when half the time we convince ourselves that our lives wont be worth it if we didnt have that particular item of luxury.

but this was an eye opener -

may i choose the baccarat crystal glass for the water please !!!!!

Mohammad_Masaud,, its NOT IMPORTANT HOW MUCH YOU WANT, BUT HOW MUCH YOU NEED caz doesn't matter how much you have, only what you need and used matters.

The ferrari and big TV aren't quality of life. Those are just things to make you 'feel' better in a life that is transient. It's like suppose you buy yourself a new, really expensive, state of the art cell phone. You think it's sweet for like the first day or two. After that, it's just another cell phone. Same goes for cars and tvs.

Happiness is something you truly own. Even if you try to cover it up with things, the only gratification you get is appearing to be happy in front of others. Sure, you can be happy and have nice things. But you can't buy nice things to give you a lifetime of happiness.

The memories we have in this life aren't the cars we own, or the big houses we buy. Our memories are helping that old man find a chair in the masjid, meeting your spouse for the first time, watching the births of your children and seeing them grow up into our future. These are the moments in life that can never be reproduced, only imitated. And we all know that the original is always better than a cheap copy.

We hold the memory of happiness in our hearts and try to imitate it with cheap copies - cars, houses, etc. Instead, let's try to create more originals.

Great piece, Mega :)
