In Loving Memory

In Loving Memory

You took from me, the serenity in your happy smiles,
And the shimmer of your hair in a summer breeze,
But you forgot to take the old picnic blanket,
That bears the stains of our messy eating,
And that time you spilt juice all over me.

You took from me, that way you snorted loudly,
Whenever I made you laugh during breakfast,
But you forgot to take your big bag of muesli,
And your favorite jelly that I pretended to like,
Both now moldy in a barren cupboard.

You took from me, the way you whispered in your sleep,
And the way you stole the blanket when you rolled over,
But you forgot to take your scent from our pillows,
Now the blanket is too big for just me,
And our bed, too empty to be slept in.

You took from me, that beautiful sensation,
Of my fingers running through soft your hair,
But you forgot to take your hairbrush,
Still lying forlornly on the dresser,
As if expecting your quick return.

You took from me, the warmth of our long caresses,
And the way you struggled to reach around me,
But you forgot to take one last parting kiss,
So soft that our lips would barely touch,
Just the way you loved it.
