insurance question

Hi all,

just wondering if anyone knows when an insurance company decides to total a vehicle. does it total the vehicle when the price of fixing it exceeds its book value, or when the price of fixing exceeds a certain percentage of the vehicle's value.

ie: damage = $4800, value - 5500. will the ins. company fix or scrap?

it really depends on the insurance agency..typically, they want to repair it unless it costs moe to fix the car than the blue book value of the car
