Intro


As salaamu 'alaykum sisters and brothers,

I have been playing for about 16 years total. My main instrument is a classical guitar, an IB-10 by Solera. I picked it up for a relative song ($600 off) here in Philadelphia. I own a 1990 Fender American Strat Ultra Plus and a 1950's danelectro longhorn hollow body. I do mainly classical now, and also blues and dork around w/punk stuff. I really want to learn to play shoegaze (Verve, Lush, Spiritualized, Cocteau Twins, etc) but I think I need to invest in equipment to do that. :)

I have been toying with the idea of building a replica (at least functionally speaking) of a Vox AC-4 amplifier this summer. (You can get the schematics off the net, its an absurdly simple amplifier).

So, what does everyone play? What are you into?

Salaam all, I have been playing for about 11 years, and have been in several bands and projects. I currently play a fender strat and also have 2 jackson dinky's, and a Yamaha. Currently in the market for an ESP M1000. Amplification wise I use a Mesa Boogie cabinet through a tripple X head and also a GT3 through a Marshall Valvestate preamp. Got the home studio thing as well with a Kurzweill k2600 synth. Love all kinds of music. Inshallah all is well with everyone.

wa 'alaykum as salaam, I think that my sudden single-ness (I was engaged) and release from impending mehdi/shaadi/walima expenses has driven me to seek a Mesa Boogie Studio 22 amp and Gibson Firebird. So I can get that sonic youth/butthole surfers sound.. RAWR

what's up johnny, salam. this is mahtab...classical's a pretty challenging style...im self taught and don't really know how to classify my style. i started out 10 years ago buying book of album tabs and just learned that way. for the most part, i like alternative, rock, metal, and stuff like that.

i got a couple guitars (a mexican fat strat, an epiphone les paul, a korean parker nightfly, et..), a 120 watt crate amp, and a couple effects (micro synth, digitech multi-effects, wah, et...).

i always wanted to create experimental sounds similar to incubus, ratm, et.. and maybe also do some indian style music, but for now im stuck playing bass for a band lol...guess i'll have to wait.

Salam. Thanks for the pointer. :) I will check it out. I got a book on Indian classical music with details of 74 ragas. It is quite interesting.

DBG: Salaam, You should check out a book published by Mel Bay. It's written by the persian guitarist lily afshar. It covers some transcriptions of traditional persian songs as well as new fusionish songs written by Professor Afshar herself. If you haven't done so, do check out her CD's, she has three out... My strat is stock, and even after all these years its WAY too much instrument for me... sounds killer tho, m'A

johnny, welcome to the village. :)

i have been playing for about 10 years, although i haven't been very regular and organized about it. i have a jackson dinky, ibanez artcore, ovation celebrity and washburn taurus bass. i have changed electronics of jackson and ibanez. i use boss gt-6 effects processor, and have a small pc-based home studio setup for recordings.

i am planning to learn some ethnic scales in summers and will hopefully try their fusion with heavy metal, with an orchestral feel.
