IS BASANT A PAKISTANI EVENT !HUH!


....EACH YEAR AT BASANT TIME. CONTROVERSY AROUND IT STARTS: IS IT ISLAMIC OR IS IT PAKISTANI.WELL! I FOR ONE SAY! YES TO BOTH COUNTS. BASANT IS ABSOLUTELY PAKISTANI. AS IT WAS THERE BEFORE THE INCEPTION OF PAKISTAN. PAKISTAN HAS INHERITED IT, LIKE MANY OTHER CUSTOMS, OF ITS UNIQUE PROVINCES. SARSOUN IS 'ALLAH KI DHAAN' SO IT IS ALSO ISLAMIC. NOW ITS ONLY FOR US TO SPREAD PEACE AND LOVE DURING THE BASANT SEASON. ALSO TO WEAR YELLOW ON MARCH 12TH.....HAPPY BASANTING!

That's what i don't like about the snow here. It doesn't stay.

i grew up in pakistan, i played gulli danda day to night. and i was dammn good at it ;)

Redhead you have finally spoken....and thats great. I agree with you, moderation is the need for the lahoris.But basant being unIslamic is debatable. AS Islam is the concrete law of physics/matter/creation from Allah...simple example: fire is hot....because Allah willed it so, one cant say it's not hot. Humans must live and accept this reality. Allah has allowed humans to use their built-in ability to recognize him, through these laws. So flying a kite is also a law. One that people love and accept. We are all citizens of Allah's Earth first and foremost. Allah has put Humans in the greatest of all trials, by plaguing him with a rationale,and to freely choose. Muslims are believers, but not all are Momins. Quran is the latest testament confirming not only a social system to govern humans, but talks of physics in great detail. So to say basant is not Islamic is incorrect, as it is human to celebrate, but lets keep it Islamic by moderating the art of flying. Maybe not a Muslim custom in some countries, but certainly one in Indo-Pak......

wow....as much as I LOVE basant I don't think it should become an olympic sport. THe olympics is already becoming a joke with all the other lame additions they have made over the past several olympics.

I mean a person can be an overweight, zero stamina couch potatoe, fly a kite perfectly and win gold? I don't thinks so.....

An ATHLETE should win an olympic medal.......a person who displays, raw strength, speed and endurance .... someone who conforms to the ideals of the olympic moto "swifter, higher, stronger" through the human form.

LOL.....sorry for sounding so bitter, i just love the olympics but hate the circus its being turned into by money making nations....

anwyas....... i looove sarsoun saag. Yummy! ANd I'll be sure to wear yellow on March 12th, not that anyone will find that unusual because I wear that colour often enough... :) I even have these Goorgeous yellow earings :)

No actually I meant, bathing in colours.......didn't know about the cuisine..... another option for Olympic, I think...labs and I think basant should be an Olympic event....muslims are always great heaven bound....get our drift...like kites among other things. (H)
