Is being tall overrated?!

Often girls will say to me, "YOu are soooo lucky you are tall" (mostly desi girls will say this to me :P). As much as I love my height (which I consider 'normal' and not excessively tall) I believe their ARE some disadvantages to being taller than your average individual, so lets make a list. My list is based on my perspective as a girl but any disadvantages from a guys perspective are appreciated as well.

1. Finding trousers (or skirts) that are long enough.

2. Not having enough leg room in Buses, cars, planes etc......It really is hard on the knees having to sit with your knees jammed into the seat infront of you!

3. If you are a girl and especially if you are desi, it makes it much more difficult to find a guy to marry because desi guys are generally not tall and have a 'complex' with marrying a girl who is taller than him. (According to Syed_Naveed finding a match is a problem if you are a guy too! He says desi girls are intimidated by tall guys)

4. Hitting your head in places that are too low.

Syed_Naveed:

5. If you are taller than the cubicles at work, you can easily get busted for walking around and having fun.

6 - catching spider webs with your head cuz no one else has ever even come close.

LOL Foxglove...as great as it is that the younger ones are shooting up fast......what good does that do me if I can't find any tall ones closer to my age?! :P haha

Man......I want a phat discount on runners too. I have to admit that whereas I may look for a sale or good discount on most things, when it comes to my runners, I'm willing to invest a fair amount on something that I like....which makes sense because that is one item that I get my moneys worth and more out of...walahi, my fave addidas runners (the only brand I buy :P ) I have travelled all over with and look like they have been to hell and back....and I STILL won't give them up!!! ANyways......its a good thing we aren't growing anymore eh?! My parents hated me when I was younger cuz I was growing so fast, and I used to wear out my sneakers so badly at one point it seemed that my shoes were being replaced every 2 months!

LOL Uzma! Hijabijinan, it's awesome that you're standing tall in the face of those insecure types :) Those guys should be proud to take you out! Footlocker is fab... I am digging Skechers trainers right now. What do y'all make of kitten heels? All of the glamour, yet none of the pain ;)

Sam, your little brother's mates are the only tall ones? How disappointing... However, it's a good sign that the younger ones seem to be shooting up faster.

ooooohh! TRAINERS, I have sooo many, my indoor soccer shoes, my b-ball shoes, tennis shoes, and 3 pairs of normal running shoes that I wear to the gym and just day to day. I swear, the first time I EVER bought a pair of shoes other than trainers was my 1st year university when I had to go to an interview where runners or kooshai (flat pakistani shoes that are dressy) would look silly. However, now I'm addicted to all sorts of shoes, although runners are still my favorite. I have to agree with Uzma that a nice pair of heels really can change the look of an outfit and spruce it up big time!

Hmmmmmm.....Hijabijinan.....gurl!! Come to Ottawa, cuz there are PUH-lenty of tall Arab guys here! :) Foxglove, I like you, do not know of many desi guys taller than 5 feet 10 or 11. Actually I only know 2...and they are both my little brothers friends :P hahahaha

FOXGLOVE: i love my trainers, but i looove my heels! they make an outfit look so polished. i'm 5'7"/5'8" and my mom always tells me i don't NEED heels. i know i don't need heels, but i enjoy heels...

One of the best things about being tall is that I don't have to wear high heels too often... I love my trainers! I couldn't be with a guy who was shorter than me, it would just feel wrong.

Desi girls love tall guys, regardless of their own height! It is true that being a tall girl makes things difficult though. I don't know many Desi guys who are over 5'10".

I rotate my suits every few years cuz THANK goodness I ain't growing anymore...... haha, actually its really bad, I have over 100 shelwaar kameezes, sarees etc...and I'm always getting more as gifts and some that I even by. I should stop cuz no one EVER needs that many clothes...and I'm SO running out of spaces. I feel even MORe guilty about such things during Ramadan :(

AR! So true that there is no where to hide, and it can be annoying sometimes. I swear, everytime i go to a desi party and walk into the room, everyone just stares, and even as I move around. ITs like EVERYONE notices you...and because of it, everyone notices even more than on others, what you are wearing etc........

Arzee....I agree with you in that I don't consider myself that tall.....more average. Its just amongst desi's that I feel like a beast :P You must also cuz I;m pretty sure that the average height for desi guys would be no more than 5 feet 9 at the most.....so you are well above the average. For desi girls I would say 5 feet 3 or 4 inches would be the average.

Hey Sam77, when I was going out with my 5?6 Libyan studmuffin he?d get off on all the attention we?d both get ESP when I wore my 3 inch heels! I could never go out with a guy that short again though ? once was ENOUGH!

OH one more thing Syed: Whenever I need to travel by plane...I always request to sit near the emergency exit doors. Not only do get TONS of leg room, everyones life is also in your hands in case of an accident ;)
