James Yee-Muslim Chaplain at Seattle Book store
JAMES YEE
Tuesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. at Microsoft Auditorium. Seattle Public Central Library, 1000 4th Avenue.
Co-presented with the WASHINGTON CENTER FOR THE BOOK AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY. West Point graduate and former (Muslim) chaplain James Yee, a U.S. Army veteran charged, and ultimately exonerated, of espionage charges during his days as a chaplain at the U.S.?s infamous Guantanamo Bay prison, tells his story for the first time in For God and Country: Faith and Patriotism Under Fire (Public Affairs). One of the first Muslim chaplains in the U.S. Army, Captain Yee, an Olympia resident, helped educate military personnel about Islam and received service awards while serving at Guantanamo. All of that and yet he was arrested and spent 76 days in solitary confinement, this under strictures now in place post-September 11 decrees. This is timely, compelling material?and a unique, compelling messenger. Free admission is on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Seattle Public Central Library is located at 1000 Fourth Avenue (4th between Madison and Spring).
