There are three positions currently available with
Conflict Mediation Services of Downsview (CMS-D) in Toronto. CMS-D is a not-for-profit charitable organization that helps people in families, workplaces, schools, and neighbourhoods understand and resolve conflict. CMS-D is committed to restorative justice and the peaceful resolution of conflict in order to reduce violence and crime, and build healthy and safe communities.

1. Job Title: CAST Project Coordinator (Contract)

The Creating A Space to Transform (CAST) project is a
two year community-based prevention partnership project. The aim of the project is to raise the consciousness of youth regarding violence
prevention and constructive conflict resolution through community theatre/drama, volunteer leadership opportunities, and youth conflict resolution services. Youth will be more educated about their options for dealing with conflict, crime and violence in a constructive manner, and better understand how to access conflict resolution and violence prevention services in their local communities.

Qualifications:
? 2 years experience working with youth
? Experience working in arts-based initiatives
? Experience training and facilitating groups
? A related post-secondary degree/ certificate or equivalent experience
? Strong organizational and leadership skills
? Commitment to collaborative decision-making and
ability to work in diverse settings
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills
? Self-motivated and takes initiative
? Mediation training/ experience and/or ability to speak
another language an asset
? Grant writing experience will be considered an asset

Responsibilities:
? Conduct outreach to recruit youth for script writing
? Network with project partners, community agencies,
and other service providers
? Schedule and conduct focus groups with youth
? Coordinate and chair project advisory committee meetings
? Prepare reports for funders as required (e.g. National Crime Prevention Strategy)
? Design and facilitate workshops for project participants
? Supervise and monitor script writer's group
? Develop sustainability plan for year two of project
? Project evaluation

This position reports to the Coordinator, Children &
Youth Programmes. Hours and job responsibilities may
increase subject to funding approval.

Salary range ? 21 hours prorated from $30, 000
Start Date ? January 30th, 2006 (1 year contract)

2. Job Title: Project Coordinator (Contract)

The Somali Youth Peace Building Project is a one year,
community based, youth engagement project designed to address issues of inter-personal, inter-generational and cultural conflicts affecting Somali and other immigrant youth living in North York and Etobicoke. The
project will build on past initiatives and learning's
from previous CMS-D and other community endeavours incorporating feedback from focus group with Etobicoke youth and into conflict resolution skills training designed for a select group of youth. The project is a
collaborative venture between Conflict Mediation
Services of Downsview (CMS-D) and Family Support and Youth Services of Etobicoke (FSYSE).

Qualifications:
? 2 years experience working with youth
? Experience training and facilitating groups
? A related post-secondary degree/ certificate or
equivalent experience
? Strong organizational and leadership skills
? Commitment to collaborative decision-making and
ability to work in diverse settings
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills
? Self-motivated and takes initiative
? Mediation training or experience an asset
? Ability to speak Somali is an asset
? Lived experience/ in depth knowledge of the Somali
community

Responsibilities:
? Facilitate communication and planning between CMS-D
and FSYSE
? Coordinate meetings with Advisory Committee
? Conduct outreach with Somali youth
? Network with Somali associations and community
agencies
? Prepare reports for funders as required (e.g. United
Way)
? Design and facilitate customized conflict resolution
workshops for the Somali community
? Perform other administrative duties as assigned

This position reports to the Coordinator, Children &
Youth Programmes. Hours and job responsibilities may
increase subject to funding approval.

Salary range ? 12.5 hours prorated from $30, 000
Start Date ? February 6th, 2006 (1 year contract)

3. Training and Consulting Coordinator
Application Deadline: 1/9/2006

Conflict Mediation Services of Downsview (CMS-D) is
seeking an individual who will: outreach, develop, promote and coordinate all aspects of training and consulting contracts and fee-for-service workplace mediations; assist in the delivery of training; coordinate
a pool of Associate Trainers; and assist in outreach
to local youth programming in secondary schools.

Responsibilities:
? Coordinate marketing and outreach services
? Develop and implement a marketing plan
? Research, develop and implement marketing tools
? Design fee-for-service programs
? Recruit and support Associate Trainers
? Monitor quality of contract service provision
? Develop and coordinate yearly training schedule
? Promote in-house and customized workshops
? Coordinate school-based program outreach

Qualifications:
? Relevant post secondary degree/certificate
? A minimum of three years sales/marketing experience
? Excellent written and verbal skills
? Proficient computer skills
? Strong time-management and interpersonal skills
? Background in the area of conflict resolution and/or
experience in a community-based organization are considered assets

Remuneration: 21 hours/week prorated from $30,000.
