Jokes at the expense of Pathans

It's sad but yeah.. some desi people think pathans are to the desi world as blondes are to the western world..

I heard these jokes as a kid .. sure you have come across these as well..

joke 1 -
A white man who can not swim is drowning and a pathan walks by. He sees that the guy clearly needs help so he dives in and saves the guy. The man thanks him. "Thank you thank you thank you" The pathan interprets this as "phank you phank you phank you" and phanks him back in the water!

joke 2 -
4 men are in a boat that clearly has too much in it so they decide to throw some things off the boat in order to help keep themselves safe inside hte boat and out of the water. The first man throws a bottle of liquor in the water. "I am from america.. we have alot of these in my country" The second man throws his watch in the water. "I am from switzerland.. we have alot o fthese in my country". The third man throws the pathan in the water. "I am from pakistan.. we have alot of them in our country."

ok, maybe i dont remmeber the exact words.. but u get the jist

:-D

Farusha: With all due respect, I know exactly what you mean and if I was in your shoes, I would be on the defensive as well. Two things...

1) Ignorant people, regardless of ethnicity or whatnot, will remain ignorant so don't pay them any mind. God will take care of their "jahil" ways Himself whether now or on the Day of Judgement. All we can do, as human beings, is to try to spread goodness and unity as much as possible rather than animosity or build walls of self-destruction.

2) I can't speak for other region of Pakistan but my family hails from a district in northern Punjab that is very close to NWFP and back in 1993 during the Afghanistan war, there were thousands and thousands of refugees that were given camps/shelter and food. I bear witness as I saw it all with my own eyes when I went for vacation that year. The valleys and plains were literally filled with Afghans. Now, when you go to our district, there are Pukhtun who are mash'allah thriving due to businesses that they have established in these (Punjabi) areas; these are the same people who came to Pakistan over a decade ago. They are benefitting us and insh'allah themselves and their families as well or so I sincerely hope. I know as well that my own family is very big on buying fabrics and materials from Pathans because your people are known for honesty, integrity, and building good relationships (something that sadly the Punjabis are learning now). I am glad to see the sense of community building up in that region in that respect.

Once again, what it boils down to is that we are all Muslim and yes, of course it hurts to see one of our own being bashed and ridiculed but if uneducated, ignorant people are the ones throwing stones, well all I can say is that I hope they get their just punishment sooner or later.

Still it would be nice to have been considerate since not everyone who is reading posts is a Pukhtun. Anyhow, no worries, don't mean to argue :)

That isn't very nice, Afggirl...either way, ethnic jokes suck! I am a very proud Pakistani gal and do not appreciate any kind of trash talk about any ethnicity. Thanks in advance.

The second joke doesn't make any sense Khushboo. Why would a Pakistani throw a Pathan out of the boat? Half of Pakistan belongs to Afghanistan. Afghans = Pashtoons. Therefore it should be the other way around. The Pathan throwing a Pakistani out of the boat would make more sense. :D LOL!

Not all Punjabis are like that, Farusha. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience with the select few who were insensitive and rude. I think everything basically boils down ultimately to education. When people are educated, they learn to be more sensitive and open to others', to others' diversities, and their views. Anyhow, please don't feel that all Punjabis are like that; I for one surely am not. There are many horrible stereotypes out there for ALL ethnicities but people forget that we should all stick together as Muslims first and foremost despite our minute differences (and even then, such differences should be celebrated, not ridiculed).

Oh and it might help to take a gander at this link: makeashorterlink.com

Kanzia you are part Uighur right? Some Uighurs were caught in Pakistan and handed across the border to Chinese authorities. Right when they stepped foot on Chinese soil, they were shot dead.

I'm sorry sis but the utopia you are painting doesn't exist. Just go to NWFP some times and ask some random joe what they think, or read NWFP based dailies and see what they think. Just because you mave met a few Uncle Tom pashtuns doesn't mean all pashtuns feel the same. It would be nice if we did live in a utopia, but it seems that it's not going to happen any time soon. Like I said before, we are a people before we are a nation. I identify with my people first before I identify with a nation. Oh and there was never any fighting between Pashtuns and Hazaras. There was fighting between *TALIBAN* and Hazaras, but it was more of a Shia vs Sunni thing as there were many Hazara Taliban! If you are both genuine in saying that you want peace, I humbly suggest that you go write letters to the pak embassy in your area and tell them to stop the unjust military actions in NWFP. 2000 people is a lot of lives, and most of those were women and children.

Kaniza: Excellent points made. By the way, read "The Kite Runner" if you haven't done so already...great book! Your point about the Pathan Pakistanis being fierely loyal is very true...I know this to be a fact from the Pathans renting my grandparents' property back in Chakwal in northern Punjab to the Pathans right here in the US. They are loyal, genuine folks always willing to stick up for a cause they believe in whether it's a nation, a person, or Islam. And yeah, the Afghanis do tend to shoot first and talk later but can you blame them considering the dehumanizing and unjust circumstances they have been put through the past few decades, first with the Russians and then amongst the various factions within...Pushtun vs. Hazaras, fundamentals vs. liberals, etc. It seems that, sadly, when an Afghan child exits the safety of his mother's womb, he is forced to live a rough life, always staying cautious and on the defensive. This is not normality. I hope God is watching out for the Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, and Kashmiris. They need God's and OUR support desperately.

here we have the perfect example of why we (muslims) are where we are today. Why cant we take the initiative to become the bigger person. Grow over our emotional behaviours and try to isolate the problem rather than becoming one?

Okay, how about the 2000 Pashtun civilians killed in Wanna the past year by the Pakistani Army? How about the daily military actions against the pashtuns in the tribal areas in which civilian lives are lost daily? How about the Human trafficking of pashtun women to serve as whores in Lahore's hira mundia and forcibly exported to countries in the gulf and eastern europe? We are a PEOPLE before we are a NATION. Our fellow Afghan Pashtun brethern are being forced to leave pakistan and it takes a Non Muslim, Angelina Jolie, to tell Musharaf to stop. Forget about Americans stepping on the Quran I forgive them. But when A muslim does it there is no forgiveness. In NWFP my cousin is doing his hifz. The paki army raided his school desicrated the qurans and arrested some malaysian kids ages 5-9. The paki army forcably closes down bazaars in the tribal areas for no reason. Women are raped by the paki army to let the men know not to help arabs (when it is proven that there are no arabs in the area). I remember reading the testimony of one soldier who raped a 6 year old pashtun girl and said, "I bet she didn't even know what I was doing to her." Lukemia rates is on the rise in NWFP because of all the nuclear cr.ap that the pakis are doing (my cousin is one of many that died from it). So kaniza, if this is what you want to be proud of go ahead. As for me, and I only speak for myself, I'm a Muslim Pashtun. And if you love pak so much, why not live there?
