Joseph Arthur - music meets art

Joseph Arthur was 'discovered' in 1999 by Peter Gabriel and has been making music ever since. He lives in New York and is an artist too. He's playing a few dates in the UK and I just got a ticket to see him next week at the Shepherd's Bush Empire.

In his show he combines singing etc with making art, he actually gets up and paints inbetween songs, as and when the inspiration strikes him. I'm actually tingling with excitement at the thought of seeing this artist in action...

This feeling of immense anticipation is rare for me.

My favourite Joseph Arthur song is 'A smile that explodes', though there is a large body of his work that I have yet to discover...

Emm, it was great that you came with me and that you enjoyed it too! It was a treat that Juliette Lewis was there and sang a song with him! He was good, he did a different set from his Shepherd's Bush Empire gig earlier this year, a lot of songs I hadnt heard before too!

Hi Zenza, that's true. All comes down to personal preference I suppose. I do respect Sharleen Spiteri's integrity as a music maker. She's a good looking woman but she's never used that to sell her records.

I disagree. I think Texas are fab and I'm sure that they would be better live.

They are one of the bands that are still going strong which can't be said for many bands nowadays.

I think Texas are a little too ummmm 'pop' for my liking! I dont think I could get through a whole concert... Though I bet their songs probably sound a lot better live than the radio edits.

Edit, just found out that texas are playing nec so will go for that one instead.

Lol.

I'm really in a dilemma whether to go to that gig. I want to go.

I'm just booking tickets for texas in manchester and hardfi in wolves.

He's playing Queen Elizabeth Halls on the South Bank on 1st June, I just got myself a ticket to that too.

He was totally awesome live. I'd love to see him again. I made a short film on my phone camera of him and took some pics too, need to upload them!

I think he's a very creative artist and his lyrics are very thought provoking which I really like.
