just a thought...
After having a heated discussion with another fellow writer, i thought of introducing this topic of discussion to get a greater depth of response.
The question is: As writers, and specifically as muslim writers, are we responsible for the actions and opinions that our fictional characters do or say? For example, in writing about themes/topics involving drugs, sex, abortion, violence etc. etc. If the Fictional character justifies their act/actions/thoughts are we as writers condoning their act/actions/thoughts as well? As muslim writers, are we selling out or selling in to a specific thought which although in a literary realm would be seen as giving voice to the unheard or expanding our interpretative horizons while as Muslims we may be treading on blasphemy/herasy and other things which may garner us our very own personalized fatwaas?
any response would be appreciated.
p.s. this topic's been posted on a few villages so sorry for the deja vu that this might give anyone
