I read on Peta today that the mayor of Karachi has issued that the city's stray dogs be poisoned! What an outrage. Sure, I understand that they might have a problem with the number of dogs on the streets, but there must be a better solution than strychnine poisoning or shooting. Paws, a Pakistani animal welfare organization is urging people to write to the Pakistani government and urge them to follow the World Health Organization's long-term guidelines for animal population control, which do not include killing innocent animals. It's great to know that there are grassroot organizations in the motherland that care about animals. Let's show them our support. Visit pawspakistan.org and follow their instructions to write letters urging the mayor of Karachi to stop this mindless, useless slaughter of dogs.
