Assallamu Alaykum,
InshAllah this finds you all in the best state of health and ever-increasing imaan.
Alhumdulillah, as you are all aware, the Muslims at UCSD have been tested by the Danish Cartoons being printed on campus in a Republican newspaper called the California Review. We would like to urge all of you to continue sending in your emails to the Chancellor of UCSD, expressing your discontent with this issue. Don't let the letters stop flowing - we need to let the UCSD Administration know that we will not be apathetic to these types of injustices!!

It is preferable that people send in e-mails. The reason for this is that by sending an email they have documentation to show that so many people are concerned about the issue.
May Allah (SWT) reward each of you who are undertaking this task for His sake, and put this in your scale of good deeds. Here are some guidelines, provided by our brothers and sisters from UC Irvine (may Allah reward them), to go by when you speak to the administration:
*Most important thing: Remember why you're doing this. You're doing this for the sake of Allah (SWT), and because of your love for Him and His messenger (SAW), who we are supposed to love more than anyone else.
*Start by introducing yourself, including your name, whether you're a student, where you attend school, etc.
*Mention that you're contacting the administration in regards to the publication of the cartoons falsely and maliciously depicting the prophet Mohammad (SAW), defaming and slandering his character, in the California Review.
*Remember to stay respectful and courteous throughout the whole thing. You can be firm and let them know that you're upset, and let them that they cannot allow something like this to happen after seeing the response it has brought from the global community.
*Make sure you mention the difference between hate speech and free speech. This speech is very clearly inciting hate, violence and discrimnation on campus, and therefore cannot be allowed. This is a direct attack on our faith. Other student groups speaking out against the cartoons have recieved hate mail and death threats from people using this as reason to attack Islam and Muslims.
*Another approach you can take is a softer one, mention that you are worried about what this will do to the atmosphere on the campus. Mention why Muslims are so offended by this, and how you personally feel; that you've seen what this had led to throughout the world, that it is offending and provoking a people and spreading Islamaphobia on campus, and there's no telling what will happen as a result; that you feel the campus really should take some action.
*Mention that this event is being done clearly with the purpose of inciting hate, discrimination, and violence. There is no benefit to the general campus by having such an inflamatory event. Again, you can tie in that we've seen what this has brought about throughout the world, and must not leave any room for such things to happen once more, and especially not in our own community.
*Mention that all the major media sources across the country have exercised responsibility, and have not shown the cartoons out of respect and fear of the reaction they would bring.
*Be sure to include that such a thing could not be tolerated or allowed regardless of which religion or culture it is trying to slander, defame and disrespect.
