Kingdom of Heaven - Review

I thought the movie was OK. I think I was expecting a lot more as they were comparing it to Gladiator! The movie seemed to drag on certain parts. It could have definetly used some more massive fight scenes!!

Also the Riddle Scott was not very historically accurate. The Crusaders did not simply give up Jerusalem, the Crusaders were beaten quite badly by the Arab forces. (Ridley Scott seems to be confusing this period with the first time the Arabs conquered Jerusalem in the 7th century AD, which was indeed bloodless.)

Also... Saladin's forces are shown to be using large numbers of forces to defeat the Crusaders. This is not true. Saladin's forces were usually smaller in numbers compared to the Crusaders. The only thing that saved his forces was the fact that they had superior tactics, generalship and superior technology.

I guess he wanted to make sure that he didn't offend the muslims or the christians. Overall a decent movie... one time watchable.

but that is exactly what makes it in accurate...the original script was much different...it passing through many hands eventually makes it a compromise. At the end it's just a boy(ridley scott) staging big battle scenes, everything else including the story and history is secondary.

I don't think it was that they did not care, I think they were treating muslims with kid gloves. It really made the movie strangely one sided, for example several times superstitions in christianity were shown to be illogical and harmful but nonthing of the sort was done with islamic superstitions. Many things were skewed to the point that if it was about any other group, muslims would be up in arms. I think if a subject is so touchy its better not to touch it, this movie, though entertaining due to its general action value and Orlando Bloom was hardly the historical epic or a serious examination of the middle east conflict it could have been.

You can't really expect much from mainstream Hollywood regarding historical accuracy. They simply don't care.
