Someone here mentioned the Abdulkader song?
here it is www.youtube.com in video
"As for warning us, Arabs, from using a foreign language, yes..there is such a thing, found in Ibn Taymiyah's book "Iqtidhaa2 as-Siraat al-Mustaqeem Mukhaalafat As7aab al-Ja7eem", and the ruling on Arabs who know Arabic yet resort to other than it in their communication is 'hypocrisy' / nifaaq. I can dig out whatever the shaikh said in his book if you guys want, i read the book long time ago and this si what i remember, not sure if he cited a hadith or something."
I believe this is what you are talkin about here:

"cannot understand a word of egyptian," why, because we speak in hieroglyphic? what a dramatization..

I agree TV is a factor, but I still think Egytptian and Shami is close to true Arabic.
I cannot read Kharah's comments
as for dramatization, i thought eguuuyptians were able to relate to that.
but seriously, a few lebanese and palestinian friends had no problem in being understood when they spoke north african arabic (mostly algerian) after hanging around with a group of algerians for just few weeks.
and also, do not underestimate the power of auditory senses, especially during childhood, when there was no TV alternative (cable, sattelite, internet) where had no choice but to watch/listen egyptian..at least me :)
But if any of u has NEVER ever heard egyptian dialect it would be hard for them to speak any of it. case in point, i know syrians and palestinians who grew up in the US and Canada who can speak their own dialect (shami, falasteeni etc) but cannot understand a word of egyptian.
As for the maghrebi arabic, many people speak strictly a dialect that is devoid of french (im not talking abt amazeeghi). and this dialect is NO MORE OR LESS arabic than the shami or egyptian or iraqi or khlaleeji.
aouicha, so sorry wallah but my schedule was very tight and i wasn't there really 'on vaccation' per se, my movements and spending were both controlled not by me! i had few friends too in morocco whom i never got to see, even when i went thru rabat few times :( but inshallah i'll visit morocco again and agian and again, i loved it soo much there! i'll add more later, maybe write about it in my blog inshallah one day soon :)
tabbara brother, i'll answer u soon inshallah.
Yes, I remember an Algerian team from Tezi Ouzoo, playing soccer in Egypt in the 80s. Algerians are extremist soccer fans like Egytpians, I remember going to that soccer game beteen Egypt and Algeria in Cairo Stadium, we had some tickets in first class, but we ended up in the Algerian side of the fans, they were all chanting 1-2-3 viva l'Algerie. See, it's again in French :( There was a fight between the players, but this is always how it end up in games between Egypt and Algeria, mafeesh roh reyadeyah ;)
Aouichab,
I noticed that Morrocans have two dialects, when they speak with other Arab nationalities, they can be understood well, but when they speak among each other, then you have to decipher what is being said :) is this generally correct ? I guess the arab media effect, makes Morrocans have these two dialects.
anyway, i do agree with u.
But i dont understand why do u say that morroccans talk in Amazighya way...HMM...we talk in Morroccan...and from north to the south of Morrocco, we have different accent ... i cannot understastand someone From Fes sometimes.
And the more u go to the south and the more u will be able to understand us...especially in the sahara... We say that they spEak ELHASSANIA... i Say THEY because i can understand it but not talk it... I have heard a Jordanian once talking...and it sounds like that a jordanian coming from Jbel (mountains...) just to give u an idea...
i detest how north african arabs treat the amazigh culture, and i know that its due to this rudeness on the part of arabs the amazighs reacted that way, like the kurds also did in the 'mashriq'. only islam can bring the peoples together again. when arabs turned nationalists of course other 'nations' that live in their midst would rise up and demand rights. i surely consider all other languages inferior to arabic, but that doesn't mean i want the languages to go extinct. its up to the individual. our iraqi kurdish imam is married to an egyptian, never taught his kids kurdish, saying to his own family who rebuked him for that: ''who needs kurdish now???" and i'd really say the same too about all other languages, but as long as there are those who speak them, we need them alive to communicate with them, but for those languages to compete with arabic, the language of the quran, no. the arabs withstood the work of the missionaries like no other muslim people did. the philippines was majority muslim, now only a minority, and indonesia itself was close to 100% musilm, now its in the high 80's%!!!! knowledge of arabic protect islam in the lands!! that's why recently the Qaba'il region has witnessed thousands converting to christianity until the algerian parliament recently passed a law incriminating preaching any other religion beside islam!!
now whoever arabizes a foreign word even back home..that's one with shaky cultural / muslim identity!! i've been here for 12 yrs and i speak pure arabic at home, and never arabized a word like 'insurance'!! it all comes down to how 'aware' u r and 'proud' of urself (muslim, arabic-speaker), and i know from vast experience that most ppl out there, muslim and not, don't think about their actions or speech, so of course they'd replace the arabic 'ta2meen / 2ammant-ha?' with arabized versions of the foreign, inferior original!!
i never said the songs were in amazighi. i said arabic of those songs is pronounced in an amazighi ACCENT. that's why the song "Abdulqadir ya Bu 3lim" we couldn't understand even though its PURE arabic!!! i dont know how to describe what u guys do to arabic when u speak it, but it sjust not helping us understand u at all!! maybe cuz u change the 'tashkeel' on the letters, or omit letters!!! it was funny when my friend when we were in morocco read a guy's name, thinking it was a phrase! the guy's name was: Lahsan Ansaal (ansaal being plural of 'nasl' -related to the sword's edge if u knwo arabic), and..he wondered why he couldn't understnad the phrase, thinking 'lahsan' was 'li 7usn' (like saying: "fulaan was released form prison 'li 7usni siloukeh' / for his good conduct), but i laughed at him and said: "MAN, THEY OMIT THE 'alif'!!! that's his name!! He's al-Hasan!!!!) later i found another sign for a guy called 'Lifqeeh', i.e, AL-FAQEEH!!!!
i know how long the french colonialism in algeria lasted, and how it targetted the country culturally and all, and that upon the independence it was said that 20% only of algerians knew arabic!!!! my own paternal uncle was sent there to reach arabic, but he came back after he almost lost his mind!!! lol. still, i wonder why 'arabization' didn't start right away!!!!! i'd say cuz the 'secularists', socialists reaped the fruit of the independence, and those ppl their loyatly are to their 'school teachers', the francophones and those who planted in their entites those foreign, stupid ideologies on society and economy and politics. had it been "islamists" who ruled by then, ....everything would have been different, including the arab-amazigh relations.
i never read qaradawi's speech in al-Qaba'il region, but i think i heard about it. where can i find it?
