so let's talk about "Letter to Elise".....i fell in love with The Cure after hearing this song years ago....so what's the history behind the lyrics? why did Robert Smith write the song? Is there a story behind it? Was there really an Elise in his life? i'm soooooooo curious!!!! Robert Smith sings the song with so much emotion and sadness.....i want to know the REAL story......

mahnaz, i have been tying to get your question answered. i even emailed the chain of flowers website 2 weeks ago. still no response back. i guess the mystery still remains.....

LOL actually I was in London for the Memorial Day weekend and well also compliments of naseeb (u know how those things go)... was hoping I would bump into Robert Smith but yeah no sign of him :(

I know "love song" was about the chick he married and then that super depressed album called Blood Flowers is about subsequent divorce....

I have no clue... I guess Elise is a mystery! I will try to find out when I'm there in a couple of days...

i don't know who the song is written for but i remember listening to a radio interview several years and he was asked about 'letter to elise' and i recall that he refused to answer the question....still a big mystery...maybe elise is mary poole's nickname or other personality?? btw, do they have any kids?

Yeah its such a sad song... mmm I have no clue why Robert Smith wrote that though! I wonder if anybody else does... hmmm. By the way i love the name Elise. I know that he wrote Pictures of You because his apt burnt down in London and he lost his gfs photographs.
