literary e-zine?
Hello All,
My article, "Flats Can't Hurt Me" was published on Vibes several weeks ago.
First of all, I'd like to say that I'm extremely impressed by the writing that appears on Vibes. I work in the book publishing industry and I can't tell you how underwhelming some of the manuscripts I read are. It's nice to know that there are so many talented Muslim writers out there.
I've noticed that Vibes mostly publishes serious minded articles. Given the state of the world today, I realize that these topics are on people's minds and need to be addressed. That being said, I'm wondering if Naseeb has any plans to launch a more literary e-zine, publishing works of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction by its members?

I'm sorry it's taken me a while to respond, but I had no idea that there was activity in this VE.
In any case, I imagine Naseeb's literary ezine being something like The Paris Review (a lofty goal, I realize, but why not?), with a focus on fiction, poetry and, to a lesser degree, creative nonfiction. Of course, only the most exceptional works would be published in the ezine; perhaps there could be a panel of editors who read and choose from weekly submissions. In addition to featuring young, previously unpublished writers, the ezine could also become a forum to which more prominent Muslim writers can contribute their works.
These days, litearture is a dying breed in magazines. As a matter of fact, not too long ago, The Atlantic Monthly scrapped fiction from its pages, relegating it to an annual summer fiction edition, something that makes me extremely sad. I think Naseeb has a great opportunity to showcase young voices in literature and, given the depth of talent in our Muslim community, this is anything but an impossible goal.
These are all very broad thoughts I'm having right now but I'm sure that specifics could be hammered out if it comes to that.
Let me know what you think.
Plus, the fact that this idea was recommneded by a republican really puts me off. right-wingers rarely make good fiction writers. they lack imagination. :D
