lonesome at times

Salam everyone,

I work with LAUSD and actually anjoy my job as a kindergarten teacher immensely...

Despite this, I find it lonesome at times... being away from the muslim community so much. Anyone feel this way?

I also do some kindergarten myself. I find that being with the kids all day keeps you so busy that you don't even have time to think about you. I know the teaching profession can feel isolating because you really aren't with adults during most of the day. I personally find talking to your family and friends that are not part of your work helps. I find with them I can say anything without worrying about professionalism and that really makes me feel better.

Did you just move to Los Angeles? There are friendly Muslims here too ..you just gotta find them. I can introduce you to some really nice people if you like.

or do you mean you'd prefer working in a Muslim environment?

I've taught on and off for the past 4 1/2 years.. and sometimes yeah it does get lonely cause you're stuck in a room full of kids all week and you can't wait to talk to another adult!

well I'm always away being a convert in a town with very few Muslims, so it seems kinda normal to me.

But I do feel lonely for companionship with other Muslims - there are so many things I can't talk about with non-Muslim coworkers and family - they don't want to hear it, or they don't get it, or they can't relate.

I know how you feel. When I was working in china, I did not have many muslim friends and those that I did know were either guys or they were too busy. I really missed home and the people I grew up with. But, after awile things got a little better after I found some sisters and even though we were always busy, we still found time to see each other or talk on the phone sometimes. Insha Allah you will not always feel like that.

Peace
