Looking for a comfortable masjid..

Hi. I'm kind of a newbie, and I'm looking for a comfortable masjid in the Philadlephia area.. (and friends, too!)

Thing is:

1.) I'd like to find a diverse masjid where I'd be comfortable.. I know it's not about color, but it would be nice not to be the only white girl/revert there.. If you're born into Islam or from a predominantly Muslim ethnic group, you might now know what I'm talking about.. "who's that white girl?.. blah blah blah.." I KNOW people can be gossipy and catty. I probably shouldn't care.. But this is kind of difficult and the less of that, the better.. But, anyway.. );

2.) One where they'd be comfortable with ME.. See, I'm going to need some help. I still don't know as much as I'd like to about culture/practices, and I don't know my prayers in Arabic.. If someone could show me, that would be wonderful.. I know there are some people where it just lights up their life to bring people to Islam, etc.. If you're one of them, here's your chance! ;)

3.) Sunni denomination would probably be really nice.. I know there's some Bawa something masjid in Philadelphia with a lot of reverts.. But it just seems creepy to me for some reason. Kind of like Catholicism..

4.) I don't wear hijab yet.. I don't know if that's an issue with some people.. Of course, I wouldn't mind wearing one in masjid. (obviously, if YOU wear one in daily life, that doesn't bother me either.. I don't know why it would bother anyone to be honest. I love hijabi girls!)

If anyone can help me with this, I'll be extremely grateful!

Thanks for reading! :D

hey there. salaams and welcome. so the bawa mosque is sunni with a sufi bent. the mosque is not only beautifully constructed, it is also pristine-something we don't always get to appreciate in many of our mosques unfortunately. I went during ramadan for taraweeh and the atmosphere was extremely welcoming and strongly multicultural. I'm sure you could find someone to help you learn without a problem there. there's also a more urban sunni mosque on 15th and catherine (I think). the mosque is a little smaller and appears to have fewer financial resources than the Bawa mosque, but it too has a strong welcoming atmosphere and is diverse. Neither I nor the friends I went with wear hijab on the regular and none of us felt uncomfortable at either place.
