LOST in the WILDERNESS...... :(

Lost in the wilderness that is the career jungle.. like me..?

Check out this really good career planning tool (warning you'll have to pay to get the full report but it's worth the money if you're thinking of a career change and want to know where your interests could take you).. there's also a free version which leaves out 1/2 the details..

Go to assessment.com

and check out the MAPP assessment.. I can send you a sample of my report if you want

hehe.. emphasis on the special... naseeb.. you have to choose really popular ppl eg. americans... and add lots of ppl (preferably ones you've chatted to)... eg, my profile says i am connected to 2775(!) ppl thru my 24 friends... wild! but i have been lurking on or near naseeb for 1.5 yrs now...

Yeah know what you mean Jasmine ! I waste too much time online. I noticed the Naseeb friends circle thing doesn't work very well. You can be connected to someone but it still think you are not when you try to email, and also even after you add a new person to your friends circle it doesn't increase your extended friends circle.

That seems like hard work Labs :o) Isn't there a website that will describe me if I enter some details like your job one? Actually I do spend a bit too much time on the web !

Heheh naseeb, describe yourself and we can tell you whether you're still a spod (techie)

What do you actually do Labs?

well. naseeb.. i have run frm overly technical work and my managers have always involved me in all the people/ customer/ business type stuff (plus stuff they didn't want to do themselves).. so that has helped me untie myself from servers long enough to see the light of day..! plus at uni i was never one of the robot like techies.. who had no mates.. ok i had abt 3 mates ..but..still an improvement on some in my class..

Hmmmmm you sure Labs. Technology people are usually scarred for life with poor people skills ;o)

hahaha ...or ... i have turned from a spod - my word for geek (trained and work experienced) into a person!! who can relate to other people! just by working with machines (and in being in situations where i've been dying to use my ppl skills.. i have actually acquired some..)..it's a miracle really.

Login to find out (April 27, 2005 at 7:02pm)
That list is something Labs ! It seems your people skills are being mega wasted.

So I think it's captured my personality to a tee.. and the biggest piece of evidence.. the damning quote on my attitude to 'things': ______"Being stuck to a machine all day" is not Labina's definition for a satisfying vocation, occupation, or job. There is little preference for understanding machines, little preference for steadily monitoring machine performance, and little motivation for coping with the routine that is required." - a lot otf that is my current job! I thought damn* this piece of software is telling me what I already know - that I hate my job

To give you an idea of how it works, it looks at what you'd like to be doing, not what you're qualified to do (ie. your personality more than your current job skills) - my top ten vocational areas were _______
Promotion/Publicity: advertise, market, promote __________
Training Services: human resource development ___________
Journalism and Editorial: write, edit, publish news _________
Craft Management: plan, oversee craft activities ________
Interview/Inform: gather, dispense information __________
Consulting, Business Services: evaluate, influence ________
Sales Engineering regarding Technical Markets and Customers ________
Kindergarten, Elementary Education: teach, nurture ________
News Reporting: gather, write, send information _______
Contract Negotiations: confront, persuade, close _________

I had a look at this mapp assessment but was put off by yet another signing up to something junk!. But now that you've tried, I am going to do this too. I work in IT and it seems impossible to get out. I am going on there to try it now. Thanks labs.

All sorts of interesting options like marketing, hr, training type stuff.. which would suit the 'new' non-IT me better........ it also had several scathing comments on how much I would hate IT type stuff! Yikes! Most interesting was the industry ideas it gave me when asking questions (it compares your likes vs. dislikes after asking lots of career preference questions... eg. which career would you like most out of these 3 and dislike the most: releasing wolves into the wild, coaching a football team, designing scenery for a theatre.....) then it comes up with a list of hot careers...... so I am now looking for jobs in places I didn't even know existed...which interest me more than banking....

What career did it suggest for you ?
