love for the night sky

It amazes me how few people admire the night sky. I remember asking some of my students how many of them enjoy looking at stars. My question was greeted with bizarre looks, one girl even asking: "Why would anyone want to do something like that?"

We have lost touch with the heavens above, and in some places, like Sheikh Hamza Yusuf states, the stars have been put out. City lights pour into the night sky, muting the brilliance above. And at the same time, many of us do not even notice.

Thus, I was wondering, how many of you go out at night simply to look at the stars? How many enjoy just looking into space, not minding the constellations, but admiring the never-ending beauty of it all. The moon. The blackness. Are we looking up or down? The creation of Allah is tremendous. It is such a sight to see, to marvel, and to reflect on His Immense Majesty and His Infinite Greatness.

I've always enjoyed looking at the stars and enjoy every clear night-even under the extremely light polluted sky of toronto-for you can still see the major constellations.

alhamdulillah wa jazakum Allahu khayran for the compliment. i completely agree with you; the sky is a incredible sign from Allah on which we should totally reflect. The fact that it is, like you said, so immense and at the same time expanding! Ya Latif indeed. I remember once I went to visit my brother in Colorado. He took me to this one spot up in the mountains, between these to large hills. It was literally in the middle of nowhere. I got out of the car and he said, "Look up." I nearly fell over from the sight of what lied above. Quite honestly I have never seen a sky like that: literally millions and millions of stars. Almost involuntarily the words fell out of my mouth: Allahu Akbar.
