Love Sonnet XI

I crave your mouth, your voice, your hair.
Silent and starving, I prowl through the streets.
Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day
I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.

I hunger for your sleek laugh,
your hands the color of a savage harvest,
hunger for the pale stones of your fingernails,
I want to eat your skin like a whole almond.

I want to eat the sunbeam flaring in your lovely body,
the sovereign nose of your arrogant face,
I want to eat the fleeting shade of your lashes,

And I pace around hungry, sniffing the twilight,
hunting for you, for your hot heart,
like a puma in the barrens of Quitratue.

-Pablo Neruda

Here, I borrowed my colleague's magazine (I told you it's for work): "Reported kissing method by the natives of the South Pacific Trobriand Islands (I'm going to spare you all of the gory details and jump straight to the eyelashes)...They also tear out handfuls of each other's hair and at the height of the kiss, nibble off each other's eyelashes!"

Actually, I was reading in a very trashy magazine (I swear it was for work), that there's some tribe somewhere (I'll look it up and get back to you folks) in which the folks basically brutalize eachother when they kiss. I mean they eat off their partner's lashes and pull out their hair. No joke. Wonder if Neruda knew about that.

Mali, you too would eat a fleeting shade of lashes, if they were on the right plate...uh, person.

I don't know. I didn't have this fish masala/salan. I had pizza for lunch. But it was good. Alhamdulillah. I didn't have to resort to eating fleeting shade. (Ok ok, I'll stop ; ))
assalam alaikum

I wonder if the fish masala could write a poem, what would it be?

I suppose the fish masala is necessary. Bread alone cannot nourish you. : ).

He's someone who didn't just like. He LOVED. I'd like to believe that he was fierce about everything in life.
Sigh.

I get the feeling that Pablo Neruda was the kind of man who took great pleasure in food.
