Maintaining kashmiri roots

This could turn out to be a controversial question but I wanted to ask it from the 'full' kashmiris in this village.
How is the idea of maintaining kashmiri roots by only marrying in kashmiri families sound to you?
This idea has been in practice for quite a while but I believe it is under threat from the left-wingers. Should this practice be maintained or should the soul of our beloved 'Nani' be given some rest for good?

my mom is the only one married outside 'kashmiri' - yes, that did bring about family feuds from quasi extended family - but sure 10 years later or so, all's smoothed out :)

you guys crack me up. What makes you think that just by marrying a Kashmiri, you will somehow guarantee that your children will magically grow up knowing about their culture? I think it would take a concerted effort on the part of the parents to educate your kids about our history and culture. You don't necessarily have to be 'pure Kashmiri'.

Shehrazad ...I was supposed to be in montreal but my wedding is getting in the way! so I may just make it in a couple months.

Fasahat...when my sister got married a couple of years ago we had numerious mehndi's at home before the huge public one, but at those house parties where all the Kashmiri Clan was invited we only served Chanai ki daal and ghosht and it was like haleem or harissa. Its a kashmiri Tradition ..and it was yummmm. Its so funny when I tell some non kashmiris about the chanai ki daal thing they just dont get why daal ghosht can be so exciting. but it is.... damn ...it sure is!

Bebe, ofcourse with ghosht. There is this trend among kashmiri families in punjab to serve that dish on mehndis. They boil the whole thing for hours so end product look more or less like haleem. Ahh good old times i mean food :)

Snob, did somebody call me? : ) .. well lets not generalize it to kashmiri boys and girls as it happens all over, in every cast. As our desi girls are the most beautiful species ever to walked on the face of this planet, how can we say anything to hurt them.

You must have all heard the phrase, 'Kashmiri khullay dullay'.. I would certainly like to have a khuli dulli larki (not in that sense lol) in my life. A girl who likes chanay ki daal aur chawal as much as I do :)

Aabutt, then I suppose we should change our ways and be more welcoming to each other so that we all have positive experiences with each right :), I'm not saying all Kash men are stuck up snobs, only the one's i've met, but at the same time I have hope that there are some decent ones out there :)

But to answer the original question, yes it would be easier to marry a person with similar roots. Marriage is stressful enough in itself, without having to add to the stress of different cultures and values.
