majoring in early childhood education

I'm just going to paste some of my latest journal entry here instead of retyping everything..

"after this semester, I'm going into the student teaching program (inshAllah, make duas for me please people, I submitted my application a week ago).

and I'm beginning to doubt my decision about my field. it's not a question of liking what I'm doing or anything. I love kids, I have fun teaching at weekend school, so that's not the issue. it's more.. the responsibility of the job. teaching requires tons of organization and responsibility, and I've proven to be the complete opposite in regards to both of those characteristics. I really worry I won't be able to handle it. and if I can't, it won't only be myself I'm screwing over.. it affects the kids and I don't want to be that crappy teacher who messed up her students. sigh."

any thoughts or advice would be welcome.

Teaching, like you say, is a huge responsibility. If you feel like you are not up to the challenge, then you should not persue this line of work. However, a lot of motivation to be and do your best comes from your students. I have actually gotten better as a teacher because I see what works for the students and what doesn't. Of course it also takes years to become a good teacher. As far as the organization issue, really, you will get better over time. When I first started teaching, I had a minut by minute schedule. It was difficult but it kept me focused. As I taught over a period of time, I kind of set in my ways and was able to do things a little more freely. While I still like to organize my lesson plans, I don't necessarly stick to them. They are just a guideline for me. If you really like teaching and you have the patience for it, I think you should continue with your studies. Organization and Responsibilty will come as you get more experience.
