Male/Female Survey

Read this excerpt of an article....then tell me what ur perspective is on it...do you agree or disagree...I want to know both male and female opinions on the validity of this quote...

Muslims in America are delaying getting married because of a prevalence of role confusion and immaturity. As women enter the corporate world, and experience the economic power and independence, they may feel like they don?t need a man. When they do decided to look for a Muslim husband, he doesn?t have the subjective mix of values- east, west and Islamic. As the Muslima?s become more high maintenance, the men are wondering what is the new definition of being a good enough man. The divorce rate among American Muslims has gone from 2% to 35% in one generation. Men are wondering, how do they need to adapt with the new versions of Muslim women. Are we expected to live as domesticated pets, in a life of servitude?

As for women.... I have also noticed a change in our expectations...

this can be a fantastic thing - I don't settle for second best... or not

some mothers have taught their daughters that the husband is her financial slave and he must be willing to do anything it takes to satisfy the monetary craving...
hhhmmm I say that is horribly unhealthy...

Then there is the other category of men who only insist on marrying a girl UNDER the age of 25... that leaves the rest of the women wondering,"What happened to all the men???"

They are also not telling another side of the story... along with women (back in the day) standing by her man, there was also an element of domestic abuse that everyone knew about - but no one talked about...

along with more economic independance, women have finally had the courage to leave a hostile environment....

now I'm not saying it's all the men's fault either... the parents of the couple have also had a strong influence on marriages.... for better or worse the parents are willing to do anything it takes to either break apart their child's marriage or do anything it takes to save it... both are unhealthy...

I think that we are suffering from the "have your cake and eat it too" syndrome.. desi men want their wives to be independent and help the financial situation of the home along with making them parathas and 3 course dinners... and when we speak up with our own opinions or not agree with them, they say that we are not "the good girls from back home, are too independent and have been ruined by the western way of life" ...

How they need to adapt? by being realistic.. if you are going to marry a girl and expect her to help in brining home the bread, be prepared to help around the house ..

I'll put this disclaimer in here that not all desi guys/gals are the same, but after hearing all the stories of failed marriages, i think we all have become a bit more cautious in our decisions.

I agree...

men today complain that we are not the old fashioned submissive wives...yet on the same token they expect us to provide a living, take care of family and home, and look like a bombshell...

umm...the women you guys remember fondly from the "good" ol days stayed home, had the ayah watch the kids, the kanzamah cook, the safai wali clean, and became short pudgy round women, you kids loved to hug and now call ummi!!!
