MASKS, TASKS AND FLASKS II

I was just thinking today of a Tracy Chapman song of my youth...it never really meant much to me then, but i'm really getting it now!!! A WOMAN'S WORK IS NEVER DONE.. it goes, AND ITS NOT BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T TRY, SHE'S FIGHTING A BATTLE WITH NO ONE ON HER SIDE....ok, so that sounds a bit melo-dramatic, but what seems over the top for men, can be normal female behaviour...why did we ever let men's version of normal be a parameter for us as women???!!!! so i say, NO, WOMEN AREN'T MELO-DRAMATIC, MEN CAN BE UNDER-DRAMATIC...AND UNDER-EMOTIONAL, it seems to be like different cultures acknowledge different parts of a woman's identity....but no one culture does coherently. To fully complement and encourage strong women with strong identities who raise fully competent sons is an excellent and noble goal....but seeing as women are the notorious multi-tasking phenomenons...i'm sure that's left to us anway....is this the CIRCLE OF LIFE?

I have nothing to contribute to this because I can never know what it is to be a woman. Of course, it follows that women can never know what it is to be a man. If this is so, then the terms 'over-' and 'under-dramatic' are meaningless as they assume a universal benchmark of 'average' drama.

But since you're attaching this attribute to a gender, there can never be universal agreement - the anchor shifts depending on which side you're on... It is pointless to compare. Do your thing. Find your identity. Stand on your own.

We each have our strengths, let's play to them, women shouldn't have to be men. Woman did not have men's parameters forced on them, they wilfully chose these values during 70s feminism and are only now beginning to realise they don't fit.

Anyway, I'm a man. The female identity is your path to find and your responsibility. I'm concerned with the very poor state of health of the male identity, and I know no woman is going to help us find it. And nor should they. It's our responsibility.
