Massive slippage on landing
Salamz,
For the private pilots, have you ever had a landing where you were forced to use a forward slip to make it down safely?
I was out today practicing full-rudder forward slips to landing. Alhamdulillah, all the landings went quite well, but nothing today even came close to the shenanigans on my previous flight.
The airport here in Gainesville was quite busy with traffic flying south to Lakeland for Sun-N-Fun, so the pattern was unusually crowded. I had come from an uncontrolled field into Gainesville with intentions to land. I was lined up with the runway on an 8 mile final, so there wasn't too much that I was supposed to be doing. However, I was directed to follow an airplane making right traffic in the pattern. Meanwhile, we had two airplanes shooting touch and goes to a cross runway flying left traffic, and a jet following me (#3 for the same runway). I was overtaking the right traffic, so I stayed high to avoid encroaching too much as he flew his base leg. This put me in the path of the left traffic and too close to the guy behind me. The controller refused my request for a 360 and pleaded with me to land... so that left me with only one option.
From 2000 feet and less than a mile from the runway, I applied full rudder and corrective aileron and flew the absolute steepest approach yet. Subhanallah.... even with all the cross controlling, I still made it down and off the runway before the previous traffic had even turned off at his end!
Wicked - I can't get over how awesome flying is.
Anyone have similar excitement?

awasome. Better than flying 500FPM decent. I have done it quiet a few times, I fly from Palwaukee airport, one of the busiest GA airport in US and when you have Cessna and Dassault business jets behind you on final, you wanna get down ASAP and taxi out.
