Simon Singh is quite popular these days with his books on physics.

Never heard of Greg Chaitin before if he is a mathematical physicist like Roger Penrose and John Baez, I would be definitely interested in his work.

Read Simon Singh's code breakers, or anything on number theory. Recently attended a conference in Sweden headed by IBM's Greg Chaitin, he of the OMEGA NUMBER discovery. Awesome mathematical physicist.
