THE TRIALS OF LIFE: POTENTIAL FOR GROWTH

"Do people think they will be left alone saying, 'We believe,' and that they will not be tested?

Indeed, we tested those that were before them, and thus Allah will certainly know (mark out) those who have proved themselves true (who have confirmed their statement of belief) and will certainly know the liars" (Qur'an, 29:2-3).

Syed Qutb, may Allah have mercy on him, commented on these verses in his famous book In the Shades of the Qur'an:

"Verily, belief is not only a statement to be uttered, but it
is a reality that has implications. It is a heavy responsibility. It is a trust that needs to be carried out. It is a hard strife that needs patience and perseverance. It is not enough for people to say 'We believe' and be left alone with this claim.

They have to be tested to see whether or not they will hold fast unto their statement of belief. If they succeed, they will get out of the trial with cleaner hearts and better abilities ? as gold is tested or treated with fire to remove various impurities."

God willing, the presenter will discuss the above verses and highlight the great test of Prophet Ibraheem, peace be upon him.
