Memories of my meloncholy whores

Garcia Marquez, the legend, has a new book...I didn't know he would write another novel as I'd heard he had cancer...and his auto-biography 'living to tell the tale' was presumably his last. I've been reading it albeit intentionally very slowly. From this auto-biography, you can tell where the seeds for ideas of characters were planted.

But now he comes out with 'Memories of my meloncholy whores'. And Allah be damned! It's one hell of a title and I have no doubt it will live up to all expectations. I'll be getting the book very soon!

perhaps.

what i've read of latin american history and tales, it's hard to tell what is real and what is magical.

even reading about, or listening to accounts of current latin american figures, you can't help but be baffeled how the bizarre is in the living reality of the people of that region. life is magical.

you need not go any further than the tale of the cuban revolution...15 shipwrecked men, without a gun, without a plan, without an idea of where the hell they are on the island, march on to lead a revolution and take over - that is the gutsy determination that legends - i mean reality - is made of.

yes i have read all his works, but thats exactly why i dont want to read his bio. if you find out exactly where he got his ideas and stories from, surely thats ruining a story? from a place where you believed he conjured up things to realising his experience is so human it takes away the magic of magical realism.

i had similar reservations...but if you've read most all the works of Gabo, then while reading the bio you get all these cool hints of where he must have gotten his ideas from. there's no denying the parallels!

really. awesome. i didnt want to read his auto bio thought, I feel just reading "the fragrance of guava" ruined a lot of the mystic qualities he possess. bios tend to remove so many doubts and questions that the authoer becomes too human.

i think leaf storm was brilliant. that book set the tone for his entire lifes works and the fact that he wrote that at age 23 (ithink) is astounishing.

ok. am done too. not a bad book. though at times it seemed like the great fantastic claims marquez often spontaneously throws out weren't as powerful. but the tale was cool.
