Menstural Cramps

What is the best remedy to relieve menstural cramps?

I've heard that avoiding coffee and chocolate helps relieve the painful cramps.

What has everyone tried and has worked for them the best?

THERMACARE PATCHES...just put one on as soon as it starts, pain or not. Also you can take IBUPROFEN (Advil, Motrin, etc) in advance to block the prostaglandins which cause the cramps.

Salaam! Try boosting your dietary calcium intake a week or so before you're due - Your symptoms should go down. Also, chamomile tea helps to relax the mind and muscles... :)

Here's what I have tried...I know I'm 2 months late for this JE but oh well. I noticed that ever since I have started to drink 6-8 glasses a day my cramps have decreased. It was scary last month, I didn't even know I had gotten my period. Drinking lots of water helps for sure!!

Also, I have noticed that after becoming sexually active my period cramps are much less then before. Before I use to turn pale white and would be throwing up it was that bad. Yes yes I am married...

When I eat anything cold the cramps get worse. Thermacare and 800 mg motrin work the best.

I used to get them a lot and got on Birth Control and that really helped. I was on them for a year or so and now I barely get cramps. But when I do, I just rest and take Advil or Midol and that takes care of it. If you have severe pains all the time, I would recommend to get on BC

thermacare heating pads are the only way i make it during that time! playtex makes some too. they are wonderful--they last 12 hours so you get thru the whole day almost cramp-free. but be careful to wear loose fitting clothes with them--i once wore some snug-fitting pants and burned my skin on my abdomen because the heating pad was pressed up on my skin too much...but other than that, they are wonderful.

I 2nd what Hinaz said :) I started tracking my period/pms symptoms, so I could have an idea of when it would start - when it gets to be close to that time, I pop some Advil in - it helps more before than during. PS: omg avoiding chocolate? I could NEVER do that - maybe I wouldn't have cramps - but I'd be having homicidal tendancies j/k :P

Anti-inflammatory drugs like Apo-naproxen have magical effect on menstrual cramps. Its truly a blessing for ppl like me who cant move an inch durin those three days. I used to take advil but over time (8 yrs) my sys became immune to it. Two a day would do the trick at first but as time passed even 6 a day wudnt help. Unlike these pain killers, apo naproxen doesnt just numb ur sys but also helps with the contractions that cause the pain. One pill works for 12 hrs or more and it works so good that sometimes u dont even remember ur in ur period..which i neva thought was possible. You don't get it off the counter but I'm sure your doc will prescribe it to u if u suggested it.

What really helps is taking advil one or two days ahead of when you expect to get your period -- it blocks all your pain receptors ahead of time so you don't feel the cramps as much to begin with. hope that helps!
