I hated that book so much. I felt sooo sorry for Gregor. I was taking an "Intro to Fiction" class (easy A) and had to read it. I was reading it at work and customers would look at me weird because I had tears all over my face. My teacher said that it was all biblical and I said, who says? Did Kafka sa it was biblical? Why is it people always say that if they like a book? I got the whole class in an up roar!

has anyone read "sickness unto death" sorn kierkegaard.
c-stine: that's funny, I'm reading Kundera now. The Joke, one of his earlier works. I think you have to get past the whole sex-fiend thing, despite whatever initial revulsion you may have to see his real point. I forget what that point was though as it was so unbearably light.

the magical realism of The Trial felt all too real for me in the context of the post 9-11 patriot act and the indefinite detentions happening just a few towns down the highway from us.
Brains: yeah, kafka wrote the metamorphosis with the intention of publishing it with two others of his shorts in a collection called "The Sons". he also wrote at some point that all his writing was about his dad. but a giant bug?

the play was autobiographical of his life (like The Trial) and how his life and freedom deteriorated and felt like a bug under his very authorotitarian father.
