milk container
most people know that hyderabadi urdu is an entirely different breed of urdu. hyderabadis hack verb tenses. "naako" and "hao" are staples in our conversations. and "parsuun" never means "the day before yesterday."
the word "dani" is used for container or jar. so a "namak dani" is a jar with salt in it. a container with sugar? ("shaakar dani" etc. etc.)
recently, my cousin's mom visited her for a few weeks. being FOBaliscious, my aunt knows about 3 words of english ("hallo," "tank you," and "cool"), all of which she utilizes whenever we talk.
it was the last few days of my aunt's trip, and before my cousin leaves to do errands, she asks my aunt if she needs anything from the store. my aunt replied, "hao Asma, dhoodh ka dani." (hao=yes, dhoodh=milk). my cousin looks in the refrigerator and finds a 1/4 empty milk jug. so Asma tells my aunt that they don't need any milk. my aunt walks into the kitchen and says "nehi, yeh dhoodh ka dani." and she is holding up her bra.
hi-larious.
