The majority of countries from the U.S. including China, Brazil, and Germany celebrate it May 14.

About Mothers Day in the U.S.
Mother's Day is a busy time of year for mail in many countries. In 1973 the U.S. Postal Service was held up for eight days because of the number of letters and cards.

So what happend. Are you all celebrating May 14th..not you keeper, I know now :)

Just as an example...I feel the need to call my mother and father on at least once on a weekly basis as I live almost two hours away and see them only once a week and sometimes once every two weeks. You see my point though....this occasion just doesnt cut it and seems to be there only because otherwise many of people in the society that DOES need it, DO forget their parents and hence aren't performing their obligations towards them as Allah ordered us in the first place.

Salam, that's exactly my point, that IS the sad state of the arabs...hey, this looks FUN, let's copy it. Hey this is in style, let's copy it, hey this is modern, let's copy it...we let others do the talking for us, and we follow them like sheep.

about mother's day, no it isn't bad to call your mom on ANY day, but my point is, and why I thionk there are many that oppose it altogether, is that it will concentrate on that one day for people...then the next day will be as if nothing happened, you forget your parents and everyone else until the next mother's day. As long as we remember our obligations to our parents, I don't feel the need to come up to my mother on some random day in the year when someone else told me to and say "happy mother's day". They can keep it to themselves.:) I say that to her all year round.

What is really sad, that everytime anybody here have a +ve idea that may be not very islamic or was not originated by a muslim then some person that they think themself religious start using the (HARAM) card.
Would these people for Allah's sake stop using these methods of mental terrorisim and stop being so judgemental. What a tired rethoric!!

lol yeah i don't really think it was serious either. I had asked though, because I have heard some ppl really do believe it is haram to celebrate it.

All your comments are great but I don't care this Mother's Day connected me with family/friends and ppl that I don't usually hear from and it was nice!
We need this so and so special day to remember each other.

keeper...to me, honestly, arabs are and have been in a sad state of copying way too much...

thats the problem when we start to focus only one day for a person, be it mothers/fathers or a birthday. personally i dont see anything wrong with buying a gift or calling your mother on mothers day, just as long as you dont only remember her on that day, b/c as many of you have already stated...everyday we should cherish those around us (be them at a close or far distance)

I don't think its a bad idea to put focus on the mother or the dad, although Islamicaly we cherish their roles daily, but how many times do we really focus on them and give them back.

Will if we copied it then we did well, because we have a different date to celebrate it than the majority of countires!!! We did really well as we choose it to be at the first day of Spring!

If we didn't have mothers day then I would have not heard my sisters voice today as she called to check on mom. When there is distance it is nice to have a set occasion to celebrate a special person's existance in your life.

There is no harm in celebrating on top of perfoming our duties towards our parents everyday.

Neither, this is just tradions, and if we perform the duties and remember our parents every day, then every day is a mother's AND father's day.

I wonder where and when the arabs came up with that (or copied it) come to think of it.

hahahaha, she is getting more than that ;) But no matter what she gets when I think about it I see it really little compared to what she gives!

Come on now, our sheesha places are cool, we have additions to the sheesha now, ppl are plying cards, and backgammon which is not bad after a long busy week...and for sure better than smoking.

My mam is in Qatar, so I will stick to the change to spring day. Any cool events of interest going to Happen in southern Cali?
In Phoenix its dull, except for our sheesha places that I think much more well received than the ones u guys have in orange county.

you are welcome, so you are going with the Arabic calendar then. My mom is here and she wants to celebrate it in May although she is going to call my grandmother and sister tomorrow... hum... I think I will go with Wednesday as this is when I will take her to cut her hair... anyways may is far away still.

Two notes:
I have a picture exactly with the same shark at Universal as u have T3mah.

Paradise now I think is being released this tuesday through netflix at least.
